@vb25 I don't know where you live, but around me in the NJ/NY area, the waiting list for police applicants can be years long.
They are spoiled for choice and it's very hard to see how higher salaries as a response to bad work would solve the problem of people who view the public as an enemy in need of control.

Teachers are "graded" by a variety of metrics, just one (a bad one imo) of which is how their students perform on tests.
What mechanism would make paying LEOs more would turn a crummy one into a good one? It seems like it'd just be paying them more to do the same things they do. You'll get the same results, but they'll be much happier I'm sure!
