Could we be witnessing an evolutionary split within the human species?

To keep this as brief as possible.

There are those of us attempting to adapt, while others have seemed to be quite content on where they are.

Climate awareness, human morality, secularism and so on have been steadily, albeit slowly, on the rise. The ones who won't adapt, can't adapt, or are unwilling to adapt are slowly being weaned from the gene pool.

This is Evolution 101. The reason we don't pick up on it easily is due to the fact Evolution takes time, like a lot of time.

But sometimes, Evolution gives us clues as to what is happening and if we devote just a moment or two of awareness we can see it.

@cmskiera As I see it there is a clear line being drawn between intelligence, and to be nice, a lack of intelligence.

@Tacitus_Kilgore
But they're not being removed from the gene pool. They're breeding more uneducated children, and those who see the problems aren't. What was the movie? Idiocracy?

@FireMonkey True, but like I said Evolution marches to it's own timeframe. They do breed more quickly but that eventually becomes unsustainable. Coupled with the fact that they generally have higher mortality rates and at younger ages than the average it probably balances out or even places them in a negative trajectory. For example, how many of the over 1 million people who died of Covid were in this category?

@FireMonkey This commentary we are having is only the tip of the tip of data. I'll bet if folks much more intelligent than myself, and who have degrees in Evolutionary Biology put some energy and study into this, we might notice a trend.

Just my thoughts. I'm not saying any of this is true or fact. It's just discussion outside of the shit show that permeates our lives. I find thought experiments are an effective motivator to keep learning.

@Tacitus_Kilgore @FireMonkey

I am inclined to disagree with this.

Punctured evolution is in fact a reality. Sometimes evolutionary adaptions happen fairly fast on shorter timescales. I see another bottleneck for the human population coming fast. Yes we will survive, but with hugely reduced numbers.

Great suffering. Yep.
Avoidable? I doubt it.

@corlin I agree with you. I am not an expert on evolutionary biology and I did not factor in quick adaptations. I am with you 100% on the bottleneck and it will be calamitous for all species. It's the one's who have learned adaptation that will have the best shot at surviving. And in the grand scheme of life, that's a good thing. Life must remain sustainable. @FireMonkey

@Tacitus_Kilgore

actually, Ken Wilber has expounded such an idea, in great detail and to exorbitant lengths in many texts.

a complex structure. he proselytizes too much for me, but it's an interesting idea.

he makes it thinkable.

@Tacitus_Kilgore

you're welcome. get ready for a long journey 🤣

@holon42 That 1 hour and 45 minute video I just watched took me 4 hours lol. I had to take breaks because of the volume of information.

@Tacitus_Kilgore

and guns. they are quite ok with kids getting gunned down en masse, it seems.
