"Rules for thee, not for me."

Yeah, if there was any question about multi-tiered justice systems in this country, I think we have our answer.

Almost any other (non-politician, political crony, or non-billionaire) individual would never had been afforded this amount of latitude.

@beer That's also partly why we went with season tickets to the Storm instead of the 'Hawks. (Well that, and 'cause Sue Bird's a legend and always will be!)

I can say the Seahawks community relations team used to be a lot better - got my wife and I tickets to the playoff game against RG3 at FedEx field when we were living in northern Virginia. Not sure how they or the media relations folks are now, especially with things in flux until the sale goes through.

@beer Undoubtedly better. The garlic fries at the football stadium are awesome! We also enjoy the food offerings at the Storm/Kraken arena, but I haven’t been to T-Mobile park.

@process Whee, looks like my sibling and I will be able to submit our citizenship requests earlier than expected! Great way to finish off Irish Heritage week here in the PNW.

@BenA Only if you have leftovers from pi(e) day to sooth any remnant joint pain. ;)

@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine Extremely. And if it can't get moved, we'll get slapped with a "retirement plan tax" for excess contributions... smdh.

So, fun fact - if you go back to school and scrimp a bit so you can exist on a pension, you apparently have to stop contributing to your Roth IRA... 'cause a pension doesn't count as "earned income."

Now I gotta talk to the brokerage tomorrow and see if we can re-direct our 2023 contributions to our standard account. FML, our tax code is so screwy.

@Razdawg22 Yes. Because the "sane" ones that gladly let their party be subsumed in exchange for a perceived chance at short term power may just have weakened themselves enough that when he's gone...

Another will likely try to step in and fill that void. Even worse, if there's a scramble for "succession" (Don Jr. vs the world?), it'll further erode their party and public confidence.

Hopefully I'm wrong though, and just being a curmudgeon that hasn't had his coffee yet.

@Idrake One does NOT... cluck with the duck. 😉

Need some good news on a Friday evening?

There's going to be a series based on Neuromancer. And before you do like I did and groan, thinking that it'll be a disaster like so many Stephen King adaptations, or cancelled too soon like Peripheral (and *cough* Firefly *cough*)...

It's on AppleTV+. I'm cautiously optimistic!

I know one thing - if that was an enlisted member, they'd most likely already be in front of the next senior PO/NCO in their chain, if not on the carpet in front of the old man.

Guess Texas is going off the "Rules for thee, not for me" policy.

OK 'Nauts, given how things appear to be going, I need some assistance. The biggest factors keeping us in the States include among other things a perception that the local schools in our part of the PNW are really good. Does anyone know of, or have a link to a resource that compares school performance in the US vs. the EU and/or GBR? I seem to recall that the US wasn't doing that well in education vs the rest of the G20, and that was before the pandemic.

Welp, the Roberts Court is pushing hard to be the one that completely demolishes any public confidence in the judicial branch of the U.S.

@TwiHusband I think it's partly because politicians and the media (whether intentionally or not) succeeded in creating, to borrow a term I saw on a CNN opinion piece yesterday, "polititainment." It's no longer about what's best for the country, it's now closer to a sporting event. The electorate is more focused on their team "winning" and defeating the opponent's party. What it means from a policy and/or legislative perspective is barely (if at all) considered.

@kel Why not... both? :D
Side note: This "Winter's Edge" candle I got because... ok, solely because of the title, is less Winter's Edge, and more "Musty Winter" than I think I like.

But at least my coffee's fantastic!

Fair warning: If you exhibit the same close-mindedness and/or bigotry as those you are posting and decrying about, there's a good chance you'll be muted or outright blocked. CoSoNauts often heavily curate their streams; you might just find yourself screaming at no one in short order.

@Museek
Today's gonna be a great day! Why? 'Cause YOU'RE gonna make it that way. :D

Oh, and Nuno approves of this message.

@agitated_trash
It's a quote from the movie "Top Gun" (the original). Based on the stickers in the window the owner(s) are military pilots and may not reflect their feelings about gun control in general.

Also notable - Trump has filed a NOTICE of appeal, not the appeal itself. The attorneys on the notice are Alina Habba and Cliff Robert's firms. So Trump (so far) has been unable to get a top shelf appellate attorney. Habba barely knows trial law.

@mcfate I'm not a lawyer - keeping that in mind, I think in GA it will depend on what he told investigators there during his proffer interviews for the plea deal. If they asked about social media and he covered it up like he apparently did in MI, I would think his plea deal could potentially be invalidated.
Since MI specifically asked about SM accounts, that is probably the immediate concern for his lawyers - I'm half expecting a statement from the MI investigators within a day or two.
