It's not the same nose shape; part of the problem is that Cooper's face is more slender, so the nose looks bigger... but really, it's just a bad choice.
The better option when changing someone's features to look like someone else is generally to go somewhere in between. Here they went bigger... the worst possible choice. Both aesthetically and politically.

People have pointed out that Cooper's own nose is pretty much the same size on its own, so adding all of this is- really bad.

His nose is very similar to Bernstein's sans makeup.
Wow. So very stupid. He's the director, too, so it's his decision. I mean, he played fucking Elephant Man on Broadway with no prosthetics.
