Yup, like I thought the often spineless "moderate" Rs will fall into line on the rules package because they're desperate to avoid another embarrassing schism in the party.
They're only postponing the real schisms for later, once the MAGA Rs demand things the country and many other Rs deeply don't want (like debt default, ending aid to Ukraine).
Gee, the House R obsession is not remotely popular with the general public. Who could ever have see that coming?

Bolsonaro clearly tried to pressure the military into backing a coup immediately after the election - in that period when he was silent about the outcome and before his advisors told him he had no choice but to concede.
You can be pretty sure that came from his advisors once the generals had decisively said "no" to a coup.
The main government buildings have been recovered from the insurrectionists (though they're severely damaged). The armed forces are fighting for the elected government.
If the Brazilian army wanted to support a Bolsonaro coup, they had ample opportunity before, during, and after the election. It was obvious Bolsonaro pressured them in the days when he went silent and wouldn't concede... and that his advisors told him it was no go.
Which suggests the thugs occupying and trashing empty govt buildings are about to go through some things.
Federal police helicopters with stun grenades have now arrived.
With Congress not in session and Lula not in the capital, I'm less than clear what Bolsonaro insurrectionists expect to achieve by trashing govt buildings.
I wouldn't expect they'll win public opinion that way. They won't stop the operation of govt. By imitating Jan 6 they remind Americans of the original and embarrass their Trumpist supporters. And by setting up barricades they're effectively subjecting themselves to a siege. How do they resupply themselves? What does "victory" look like?
Good, scathing column, just eviscerating Lake's deranged lies.
More of Kevin's feeble pandering to the core cult.
Even if he can pass such bills (far from certain with such a tiny majority and a few pragmatist Rs still in the caucus), they can't go anywhere with Ds controlling the Senate and WH.
And it will further show the public that the Rs don't care about anything but MAGA propaganda.
Oh, and his plans would also be unconstitutional.
Center-left academic type. Generally pissed about the state of the world but I know none of our endless crises are actually new because I'm a historian.
