This latest conspiracy theory is one of the dumbest yet. If such emails exist, they obviously weren't created to evade detection, as one would - with burner phones, secret servers etc. - if acting nefariously. Because then they *wouldn't be included in the National Archives!*
I mean, the right-wing rant is "this MUST be where Biden hid his corrupt dealings and ran the global crime operation through Hunter!"
And then he included it all in his official papers?
Worth emphasizing again that judge Jones (an Obama appointee) has said removal has a low bar - precisely because it doesn't have dramatic implications for the prosecution.
But what Meadows really wants is *immunity* from prosecution. Jones's query here shows that he is considering removal, but immunity isn't going to happen.
@mcfate Yes, he moved on to full time war crimes. But he was at the center of their election sabotage efforts when they were still under the radar and, therefore, more effective.
@singlemaltgirl He only cooperates with dictators he admires.
@singlemaltgirl The Turkish gov't demanded that twitter remove content it didn't like, and Musk instantly complied. (He fiercely fought a subpoena for Trump's account, though.)
@TheNewsOwl A good piece of which of course happened under Trump.
So the judge in the Meadows removal matter - an Obama appointee - was openly skeptical of Meadows's claims to have been acting officially... but indicated removal was still a possibility because *the bar for getting such a move is low.*
IOW because it doesn't profoundly alter the prosecution.
Which hasn't stopped the media from frantically playing it up as "THE MOMENT THAT COULD NULLIFY ALL LIABILITY FOR #TRUMP!"
They're better than in '16, but nowhere near good enough.
From CNN:
@SentinelOfTruth Maybe... but god knows I've seen plenty of flesh and blood humans produce appalling misplaced modifiers.
@arthurpendragon A legitimate question in today's media environment.
Mysterious box that turns out to have nothing in it but dust.
Definite shades of Raiders of the Lost Ark. (Without the supernatural segue.)
@LiberalLibrarian Oh yeah... I forgot about them. But then I don't follow basketball much.
@LiberalLibrarian MLB also says "world championship"... though it does at least include a second country (slightly).
@LiberalLibrarian "Not slept, Caesar!"
Such a great scene. Blessed wasn't an obvious choice as Augustus (not that we have any actual idea what Augustus looked like), but he was brilliant in the role - the perfect combination of bonhomie and menace.
Um, no. He wasn't "thrust into the spotlight." As a character in Quiz Show says, he had to be dragged away from the spotlight with his teeth marks still on it.
The entire Obama confrontation was a cynical setup. He wasn't a plumber, the injury he claimed was made up, and he frantically parlayed it into national R adulation - which many pundits hysterically claimed would swing the election to McCain.
Strengths and stupidities of the media in one snapshot.
The story is good - it debunks the NY Post/Trump lie from the first sentence. But the headline, as displayed on the webpage, makes it sound like the claim is credible - when the whole point of the article is the opposite.
Center-left academic type. Generally pissed about the state of the world but I know none of our endless crises are actually new because I'm a historian.
