You take a few minutes to collect yourself, on the floor of what appeared to be a room, inside of a tree knot? You aren't absolutely certain, but you spot a sheathed sword, a shield, and some equipment lashed to a belt near the opening into the room. The fairy grows more alarmed, arms flailing about as it bobs in the air in panic. "I shouldn't have saved you from the lake, you don't belong here stranger, you need to go!"

That tiny bug has a human like face, holy crap is it close too! You swear it's about to headbutt you as you focus your eyes on it. "I said WAKE UP! Come on, out of the cot! The queens and her guards will be here any minute now! Up, up you!" How is this thing even strong enough to nudge you, it's not even the size of a spool! Of course, trying to correct your sight in your sleepy state, you fall backwards out of the cot and onto the floor with a thump!

The sound of a tiny bell rings in your ear, and you turn over in effort to drive the sound out.

Persistently the bell rings even louder, uninterrupted, your blanket gets pulled away quickly as the bell starts to sound more like a tiny ringing voice. "Hey, you, WAKE UP!"

You roll open one eye to only be nearly blinded by a green glowing figure floating right in your face. What the hell is that! You swing at it! "Hey, stop that!"

Now I'm only one storyteller, I know there's plenty of us lurking about, so if anyone wishes to peak up the reigns to take the lead - just give me a shoulder tap. ^_^ Shall we pick a setting?

Shall we begin with a fresh tale tonight?

@iLovAussieSheps is taking the storyteller role for the adventure tonight! Pick your weapon, there's more to come!

This guys gotta be out of his mind, he doesn't see you turn for the hallway, his ax swing came again but hit the wall where you once stood and you could hear the old mans thin voice welling up in a horrific wail as you slam the door behind you leaving the house of the mad man behind in a dead sprint.
Dusk isn't far off, probably a couple hours away from now, and there are more houses along the lane to explore. You have time.
Choose wisely. Continued tmw.
26/

You duck, the ax swinging overhead just by a hair, you could feel the breeze of it slicing through the air. Damn that must be one sharp ax! Wait..why IS he attacking you? The old man wobbles a moment, regaining his balance as the swing went wild, letting out a gutteral shout! "She's mine! Yer not having her!" Oh oh no. You could see the look on his face, he's not entirely there behind those filmy brown eyes.
25/

You tell the old man what you saw in the dining room and he looks at you funny for a moment before he heads for the dining room himself to check things out. His hand reaches out to grab a handle of something on the way, and you being already nervous, swear that it looked like a broom at first. You follow him into the dining room and he stands over the chair on its side on the persian rug, glaring in upset, before swinging the ax towards your head!
24/

"Eh? Oh, my wife! Sorry, yer new around here. S'alright. She's in the other room, staying by the fireplace. Said she was a bit cold so I wrapped her in a blanket and got her a glass of wine to warm her up." Wine? You remember seeing the wine glass on the floor and smelling the white wine in the dining room.
"Is the fireplace in the dining room, mister?" You ask. The old man looks at you sidelong a moment, hesitating. "No, why?" Should you tell him?
23/

You help the old man up to his feet and dust off his back from the debris on the garage floor. You get a glimpse of cherry red car paint and chrome hidden beneath a dusty grey tarp nearby but didn't get a chance to look closer as the old man leads you back inside to finish your meal. "Say kid, how about ya stick around? Pearl and I aren't as mobile as we used to be, could use the help around these parts. What ya say?"
22/ (Care to pick up and run with it?)

(Another tie! Goodness yall! Hubs pitched in to help. ^^)
You let out a shout of challenge as you burst out the door to the garage, spooking the giant rat with the sudden second opponent appearing, and it darts off to the house you had fled from earlier.

The old man lays there on the floor of the garage a moment panting for his breath, hanging onto that rake for dear life as he gave a grateful nod to you for coming to his aid. "Th-thanks kid. "
21/

(Hubs pitched in to break the tie.)
You made a beeline for the kitchen for water and what appears to be spam and a small hand loaf of bread. You were digging into your meal when you heard an alarmed hoarse shout in the garage and a clangor! You jump out of your seat, already edgy as it is and take a peek in the window of the garage door. The old man seems to be struggling with one of the giant rats, he's got a rake fending it off, but won't last long!
21/

"Somethin' about heading to the north, we're on the edge of a desert here, hot as hell during the summer, but we're lucky in this part o' the state. Got a glade just down the lane, ya didn't see it coming in?" The old man looks at ya in puzzlement, how did you miss that? Must have been further down the lane than you were aware of. "Heh, dun worry about it kid. Grab a bite and some water. I'll be back."

He headed for the door leading to the garage.

20/

Clearly, he doesn't want to hurt anyone, his colt looks a bit dusty even after he picked it up and held it at you like that. You could tell by the shake in his hands that he's not used to talking to anyone. How long had it been since the others vanished? "Oh, them kids, Pearl and I took in a few in the last few years to help out until they figure out where they going. Most drift through and stay for a night and head on off at dawn."
Hm, to where though?
19/

You put your hands out to the old man, making it clear that you are unarmed as you explain your situation. Waking up in an abandoned house, chased by a giant rat, and trying to find shelter before more find you at night fall. He squints at you for a few minutes after you finish your tale thus far before he lowers his colt and sets it on the record player counter nearby. "Yep, one of them lost kids. I getcha. Come on, Gonne hafta hunt tonight though." 18/

"I dunno why yer here kid, but thems nasty things out there when dark hits. Yer either here to steal my food 'n water, or to kill me, and I ain't going down without a fight." The old man clearly wants to stay safe as well, but he's uncertain of your intentions! Your hands still raised in the air, you step backwards to avoid crowding the old fella. He looks like he's worn out, scared like you. What do you tell him?
17/

"As you move down the hallway back to the entrance and head for the left hallway from the front door, hear you a clear audible *shnick-click*! A chill runs down your spine as you turn your head to see an old man with a farmers tan and a roughnecked flannel staring right back with a colt pistol raised, aimed at your chest!"
"WHOA WHOA! I'm not armed!" "Your hands thrust into the air with surprise and alarm!"
16/

"You choose to duck back into the hall. Whatever tipped over that chair and dropped the wine glass must be aware that there's others running about for shelter. Maybe they'll let you stay if they don't notice you here?

You can hear a scuffle of worn shoes moving on the flooring in another room, not too far from you, probably in the living room. Hard to tell with the layout unknown. You could easily wait to see if they find you, but what if they are armed?"
