Staffer of GOP congressman dies of COVID. It’s sad when anyone dies of this plague. I wonder, though, if the congressman will change his attitudes at all concerning the virus.

So far, the GOP has embraced Trump’s “it is what it is” attitude — people will die, oh well, open the bars and schools (while I keep my kids home).

@b4cks4w Wow.

I remember years ago when Walmart was still owned by Sam Walton. The store actively promoted products Made in the USA.

I didn’t feel quite so bad shopping there even though they were killing Main Street stores.

Then he died and his kids went all in for China. And Main Street was dead.

This won’t lure me back in.

@AlphaCentauri

Yeah, simply alerting them to the issue with that sort of caveat is the smart way to do it. They will hopefully come to investigate. @Qbae

Just an idea here, hear me out..

Of all the requirements we seek when having people in positions of power, either elected or selected, we would all do much better if we placed even a modicum of compassion on that requirement list. I'm really tired of the pull yourself up by the bootstrap argument and the celebrated cruelty that comes with it.

Within weeks, we will have thousands of people in this country losing their homes and starving.

The police chief in a nearby town came out in favor of . He posted a very beautiful statement on the department’s FB page. Then the officers peacefully joined in on the march. And, they don’t tend to shoot people. They take “serve and protect” pretty seriously.

Good morning, CoSo! Sipping coffee and enjoying the coolness on the porch. Summer mornings are so beautiful. 💚

@ChippySuave oh my, did you sneak into my house? 😂

I am not a big TV person. Like to watch the news, like some programs on PBS. But I really prefer reading.

DH thus has the remote. He’ll watch something for a few minutes, decide it’s no good, flip channels, repeat.

I sit next to him and read.

Perhaps this is one reason I don’t watch, though, that flipping about would make me crazy if I were watching... 🤔

@fragged yes, there’s a lot of garbage on Twitter. And thousands upon thousands of bots and fake accounts designed to spread garbage.

But there are good reporters too. It does take time and energy to sort it out. I wish Twitter would make an attempt to block the bots rather than shadowban real people.

@fragged as to “mind-washing” if you want proof of Facebook’s part in 2016, read the coverage in The Guardian - they broke the story. Facebook is, truly, evil.

@fragged The bird site is great for news. Lots of independent reporters posting live videos. There’s no other place equivalent. But the news is not good these days and yes, it can be depressing.

What I had been doing was 10 per weekend. So after getting my fill of news, I would work on my postcards. Now, I am doing 20 cards. Less time there is more time for cards.

@fragged I have.

I deleted Facebook a couple years ago and tried to get family and friends to keep in touch via texts and calls. It didn’t go as well as I’d hoped.

I stuck with Twitter for quite awhile after that.

Then I got burned out on Twitter and took a long break.

Last winter I went back on Facebook. I still hate Zuckerberg, and I still think his collusion with Russia in 2016 was inexcusable. But it serves a purpose. I would like to see something that was broadly used, but not evil.

@FreedomATX

I hear you. We live out in the boonies. The only way to get traditional TV is with a big tall antenna tower or a satellite dish.

We have satellite TV. We only recently got “enhanced” DSL to replace our satellite Internet. So our Internet is now like yours probably was 15 years ago. 😸

Sometimes I want to cut the cord. But streaming on our DSL... not very good. And DH watches lots of TV.

BUT. THAT. BILL. 😱

Alcoa City Schools (TN) began welcoming students back Wednesday while operating on a staggered, hybrid schedule to prevent the increasing spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Students were broken up into five groups, according to last name, and would be in the classroom one day a week. Only a fifth of the students would be on campus at a given time.

Within days a middle school student tested positive.

@inthreedays I have long suspected that the real reason he won’t disclose his returns is that it would become apparent that his income is not that of a billionaire and he’s more debt than anything.

The upside of Trump passing his cognitive test is that it makes him competent to stand trial.

Stop saying November 3rd.

Start saying October 20th.

The USPS is advising every American give their mail-in ballots 14 days roundtrip. If you do not, there’s a chance it won’t be counted.

Fascism is at our doorstep. Every single vote counts.

My state has official ballot drop sites or you can drop absentee ballots off at elections offices, if your state has those, use them.

@inthreedays I am old enough to remember when the “billionaire” said he would fund his own campaign.
