Alcoa City Schools (TN) began welcoming students back Wednesday while operating on a staggered, hybrid schedule to prevent the increasing spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Students were broken up into five groups, according to last name, and would be in the classroom one day a week. Only a fifth of the students would be on campus at a given time.

Within days a middle school student tested positive.
