I’m on my 12th book of 2024 and I am kicking myself for waiting so long to read the Binti trilogy by Nnedi Okorafor. I am blown away by the world (more like universe) building and the titular character. The books themselves are short, novellas even, but holy smokes do they pack a heavyweight punch. I haven’t been this satisfied with a trilogy since The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Ah, libraries. The root of all wickedness. You were seduced by literature, were you?”
-The Future by Naomi Alderman

When I went into Starter Villain by John Scalzi I was unsure if I would be even half as amused and captivated as I was reading Kaiju Preservation Society.

Expectations have been thoroughly exceeded. The dolphins… 😂☠️

On Saturday I read A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers in one sitting. It’s a short but beautiful read. It’s aspirational, forgiving, and made me laugh and cry. And I never thought I would say that about a book featuring a spiritual tea 🍵 peddler and a box headed robot. 🤖

Just read it.

How many books did you read in 2023? Are you in the top 1 percent?

So I have borrowed the Lost Apothecary about 3 times (digital loan) never got past a couple pages and always let it lapse. My sister gave me a physical copy during our Christmas exchange and still I was like, “meh.” Tonight I read 10 chapters in one sitting. Why tonight? Because I rearranged the furniture and the hubs bought me a fancy floor lamp for my new chair.

I’m a weirdo. It’s a damn good book. The lamp and chair are pretty sweet too.

I sincerely dislike when are marketed as “unputdownable.” That made-up mash-up immediately makes a book “nonpickupabale” for me.

There, I said it.

My sisters and I started (what seems to be becoming) a new tradition last year. Instead of buying each other a Christmas gift (because we want to focus big gifting energies on the kids) we exchange books from our shelves. The new sister-in-law is in this year and it looks like I need to back a whole suitcase just for the books I want to share with them. 📚❤️

What are you reading today? How are you reading it (ereader, tablet, book, computer, etc?) Why are you reading it (what made you want/need to)?

Hey , anyone read this one yet? On a scale of general unease to righteous indignation and call to action, how ready should I be for this?

Recommend me a page-turner! Any genre will do. What’s the last you flew through and loved every minute?

Catherine Steadman (actress of Downton Abbey fame) is also a writer and she is three for three of the of hers that I have read. Fourth one borrowed and on deck.

Something in the Water ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Family Game ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Disappearing Act ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mr. Nobody (TBD)

The on your are…

Reading The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green on my Kindle today at work. It is an unexpectedly soothing balm for my spirits as of late.

I am biding my time until Starling House by Alix Harrow is released in October. Someone help me through this difficult time. Recommend me something you have read recently that made an impression on you.

Good morning, !

Several People Are Typing by Calvin Kasulke is witty, bizarre, and exactly what I needed after finishing Zero Days by Ruth Ware yesterday.

The almond milk mocha is just the icing on the cake.

What books do you treasure the memory of your mom or dad (aunt, uncle, or older sibling) reading to you as a child?

have you ever bought books from ThriftBooks? What was your experience?

I ordered 3 books all in “very good” condition but not one of them is what I would consider very good. One is barely acceptable—several pages are taped in and there are holes worn in the book cover. Is this typical from Thriftbooks?
