In fact these things are closely linked. We evidently do have a mental health crisis when children shredded into bloody rags is considered an acceptable exchange for an expensive, deadly toy and the toymaker's profits.

And one of the causes (not the only one) of that mental health crisis is the ubiquity of easy-to-buy, unregulated guns.

The ubiquity of people who are prepared to shoot their neighbors and spend a shocking amount of time thinking about how to do that counts, I suppose, both as a cause *and* as an effect. Certainly knowing they're out there does my mental health no particular amount of good.
