ON this date in 1964 - Sam Cooke announced that he was cutting back on live performances to concentrate on songwriting and building his record labels.
Sam turned to those 'hitmaker songwriters' Bun Man and Mr. Purple and they began cranking out the hits.
The relationship was short-lived as Sam died later that year after being shot at the Hacienda Motel.

ON this date in 2002 - U.S. President George W. Bush approved Nevada's Yucca Mountain as a site for long-term disposal of radioactive nuclear waste.
Over the objections of Senators Bun Man and Mr. Purple, the last Dems to hold out, Bush would borrow a phrase from the NRA and state "Nuke 'em till they glow!"
Nevada residents were cool w/ the deal, they got a new signal beacon out of it as the mountain now 'glows' 24/7.
ON this date in 1958 - "The Dick Clark Show" debuted on ABC-TV.
Connie Francis, Pat Boone and Jerry Lee Lewis were the first performers to appear on the show.
A staple for the Boyz and me when I was growing up, Mr. P loved hearing Connie and Pat croon that evening, while Bun and I were enraptured by Jerry Lee...
My love for rockabilly was born and the rest is history...give me some Carl Perkins, Dave Edmunds, Eddie Cochran, Stray Cats, Brian Setzer, or Johnny Burnette any day...

Special counsel Robert Hur ’s decision to release a report last week calling Joe Biden an “elderly man with a poor memory” was, quite obviously, the greatest thing to happen to the Republican Party since a government shutdown led to Bill Clinton having a little too much time on his hands.
Was Hur’s commentary on Biden’s mental state part of a politically motivated smear job ?

From Robert Kuttner
The Fed and the commentators in the financial press are in a kind of conspiracy of ignorance that gives too much weight to misleading economic indicators of price increases. The real economy—which is to say us—pays the real price.
