TONIGHT, TONIGHT, WON'T BE JUST ANY NIGHT...TONIGHT THERE WILL BE

A rare sky spectacle will occur Monday night that (probably) won't happen again for years: A full moon that can be called both a supermoon and blue moon will grace the night skies over the U.S.

Dubbed a "super blue moon," the rare combination occurs when the different cycles of blue and supermoons happen to align on the calendar, said NASA's Noah Petro, Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter project scientist.

ON this date in 1939 - The Dick Jurgens Orchestra recorded, "Day Dreams Come True at Night."

Trumpet players Bun Man and Mr. Purple were given solos in this number as they had been the inspiration for the tune.

This song was a follow up to Bun's wild success w/ his number "Wet Dreams Come to You at Night" which he wrote during one of his repressed periods.

Mr. P just sat quietly in the corner; he was beginning to write the song "The Stroke"...

It's a COSO Monday...

ON this date in 1812 - "Old Ironsides" (the USS Constitution) won a battle against the British frigate Guerriere east of Nova Scotia.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple tell the story about being mates on Old Ironsides w/ this sailor who stuttered and when in this battle, the sailor uttered "Let's whip this friggin' frigate..."

Hence, the origin of the word 'friggin' into the vernacular.

ON this date in 1917 - Team managers John McGraw and Christy Matthewson were arrested for breaking New York City's blue laws.

The crime was their teams were playing baseball on Sunday.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple, members of McGraw's team, refused to play that day for religious reasons.

The Boyz soon found themselves back in the minors, but they remained true to their convictions...

Since someone seems to be all about Martin Luther King Jr these days, a quote...

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality,” -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Clearly a little torqued by the engagement, Mom retorted sternly "Good morning, (XX)...

Once we got in the hallway, she turns her head and says "What do you think he'd do if I said Good morning, asshole..."

AS I SAID NURTURE STORY

3/3

There is particularly one 'gentleman' which Mommy has no affinity for and he knows she doesn't so he periodically will engage her as she passes by his table. This morn, as she passed, he said, "Good morning, Mabel" in a slightly sarcastic tone (I am here daily so i am familiar with residents' tone in utterances).

ON this date in 2017, Sometime, it's a nature story, sometimes a nurture one, today a nurture. ...so I'm wheeling Mom out of the breakfast room this morning, and we normally say "good day" to the other residents as we depart.

Morning Peeps,

GOOD ADVICE ON LISTENING

DON'T BE A TOPPER

Historybook: Fashion designer Coco Chanel born (1883); Former President Bill Clinton born (1946); Comedian Groucho Marx dies (1977).

"Years ago, I tried to top everybody, but I don't anymore. I realized it was killing conversation. When you're always trying for a topper you aren't really listening."

- Groucho Marx

76 gloriously sunny, mellow day in God's country...Slow blues on Spotify, starting golfers on one of the most beautiful courses in Southern Utah, and appreciating my many blessings. Thank you Mikster

ON this date in 1840 - After suffering for 4 days and hearing his moans, Bun Man extracted Mr. Purple's rotten incisor by tying a string to it and kicking him off the roof of their house in Queens...

Bun Man said, "This is hot fun, we should make this a club," and thus The American Society of Dental Surgeons was founded in New York City, NY.

A REMINDER...

Keep your wits about you, don't let yo' head get too BIG...

Thornton used to say, "If you truly loved me, you would wake up w/ me in the morning."

Bun told Purple, "Don't fall for that crap, that is the first in a series of hooks they get in ya."

Mr. P would always depart before the morning, but he would leave a silver bullet.

2/2

ON this date in 1956 - The original version of "Hound Dog," by Big Mama Thornton, was released.

The verse w/ 'you ain't never caught a rabbit...' was originally, 'you don't ever sleep over, you ain't no friend of mine...' as Mama was dating Mr. Purple and he never spent the night after having his way w/ Big Mama.

1/2

ON this date in 1962 - Peter, Paul & Mary's "If I Had A Hammer" was released.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple had actually penned the original words to this opus, it went something like "...if I had a hammer, I'd be freakin' dangerous; I might even do some fix up around the house..."

ON this date in 1920 - Tennessee ratified the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The Amendment guaranteed the right of all American women to vote.

Bun Man remembers this time as one of great joy in his family; Mr. Purple doesn't have the same remembrance, but that's a story for another day...

The Boyz both expressed displeasure about modern efforts to limit voting rights...

WE NEEDED THE COORDINATION

Ken-Dogger: That’s a sight this morning.
Flootie: What you talkin’ bout, Willis?
KD: Name’s not Willis…What’s the occasion?
Tootie: We’re coordinated…we’re in for the long run.
KD: You’re the Witches of Eastwick, that’s what you are.
Rootie: Naw Dude, we read that the more coordinated you are, the more you’ll get through the RONA.
KD: Coordinated action, silly, coordinated action.
F: You’re calling us silly, you’re the ones who need the coordination.
