MISSING THE SIXTIES

ON this date in 1965 - More than 3,000 civil rights demonstrators led by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. began a march from Selma to Montgomery, AL.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple, and UCONN college students, were there and marched all the way to Montgomery.

The Boyz sang folk songs w/ Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie along the way while Rev. Kerrigan prayed for their souls.

Damn, I miss the 60s...

Well, are ya, punk!

Cause this is a 47 magnum and will blow your head clean off..."

Mr. P had to apologize for Bun, seems Bun got his historical timeline all screwed up and Bun thought he was still in 'Dirty Harry' mode.

ON this date in 1871 - Journalist Henry M Stanley began his famous expedition to Africa.

A month into the expedition, he came upon an English-speaking party and asked, "Dr. Livingston, I presume?"

Bun Man turned to Mr. Purple, shook his head, and then Bun turned to Stanley and said "Are you talking to me?

ON this date in 1851 - Emperor Tu Duc ordered that Christian priests be put to death.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple, who recently came thru a time portal, found themselves between the Christian rock and the Emperor's eunuch's hard (well, more than likely soft) place.

Deciding it was not in the cards to come out as eunuchs, the Boyz quickly found another portal and got far away from the Duc man.

What can I say?

The Boyz have an affinity for their special hard place.

just to hear the new tunes and watch the new dances.

The Boyz actually developed a dance and were asked to audition for Buddy Dean.

When the music started and all Bun Man did was to put a towel between his legs and rock it back and forth, Buddy had seen enough.

That Bun Man, always ahead of his time...

BEWARE THE TOWEL DANCE

ON this date in 1989 - Dick Clark announced that he would no longer be hosting the show "American Bandstand."

He had been the host for 33 years.

Bun Man, Mr. Purple and I would watch his show weekly, just like we watched the Buddy Dean Show from Baltimore (or the Jerry Blavat Show in Philly) on a daily basis, ...

2015 Indian Roadmaster...Sold it when we moved West in 2020.

IDK, but I'm thinking it might be time to give this to restaurants again...

2016 (Updated to 2024) Presidential Election Campaign Prediction...

Restaurants will begin issuing a card which reads "We respectfully request you refrain from political conversations while dining in this establishment; Our walls can't take the acrimony, nor can your stomach-.

The water has been tested safe."

That steady erosion of norms is what Trump is doing to America and Putin is doing to the world. And if we let them get away with it, your kids won’t just grow up in a different America, they’ll grow up in a different world."

The lesson that the Bedouin chief was trying to teach his sons is that he could live his life without that turkey — but he couldn’t live his life with what the stealing of his turkey with impunity implied: that when people keep eroding the norms of society, stealing — turkeys or the truth — eventually becomes the norm.

THIS FROM 2018...6 YEARS AGO

Important point from Thomas L. Friedman this morning in 2018...

"Trump and Putin are cut from the same cloth. Their strategy is: keep pushing, keep grabbing, keep lying, keep denying, no matter how implausible the denials — and never apologize. Because when you lie on an industrial scale, it overwhelms everyone else. Normal people just don’t behave that way, and the sheer shamelessness eventually exhausts them.

TAKE YOUR SHOT...YOU NEVER KNOW

Morning Peeps,

Ken-Dogger: Hey Mr. Big, some games yesterday huh?
Mr. Big: Dude, had me soaring…One and Done Baby
KD: Yep, that’s the intensity of this tournament…
MB: Kinda mirrors the life of these kids too, one shot…
KD: For some, that’s all they’ll get, just one shot.
MB: But how do they know when that shot is?
KD: That’s the intensity Mr. Big, you never know…

Great Brookings piece from Vanessa Williamson on Migration history and future trends

The partisan realignment that followed the Great Migration should encourage our humility in our capacity to predict the future—a humility that can keep us from cynicism and despair. The idea that mass migration could result in something as astonishing as reversing the Democratic Party’s position on white supremacy should humble us

Historybook: Fred "Mister" Rogers born (1928); KFC founded by Colonel Harland Sanders (1930); Basketball coach Pat Riley born (1945); Spike Lee born (1957); Kenny Rogers dies (2020).

"It's not the honors and prizes of life which ultimately nourish our souls. It's the knowing that we can be trusted, that we never have to fear the truth, that the bedrock of our very being is good stuff."

BIG BEAR VALLEY

Jackie and Shadow are kind of a celebrity couple around Southern California, but they aren't Hollywood actors…or even human. They are a pair of bald eagles who call the San Bernardino National Forest home.
