Second time's a charm!
Today for #BookTube, I talk about the strange shifting world of #SFF publishing, and the challenges it creates.
I talk about the red flags indie writers need to look out for, and my experiences as both indie author and editor.
And...
I frame my conversation about why indie *matters* around the work of two #WritersOfCoSo, @cmskiera & @joycereynoldsward: two authors whose work addresses niches & ideas often overlooked in the trad world. 🎉
Oh, I love this game!
Dating me is wild:
You get a chameleon who can probably match your interests with ease, and is good giving and game elsewhere, too; but whose warmth does not translate to love with ease, and probably won't ever, because that lil' ol' box of a heart is locked up something fierce, and carried around in a body perfectly comfortable being left the hell alone.
(😬 Part cat, part Grimm's Fairy Tale?)
🙃 I was about to post today's BookTube, except that the volume was too low, and then I realized that, even though I'd taken the time today to cut out audio and refine *some* of the highway noise from it, I'd forgotten my most basic volume-boost procedure.
So! It's now re-downloading for re-upload. Le Sigh.
But I can finish Patreon while I wait, and all the YouTube data is ready. Hardest part was finding a good cover screencap, because I always look like I'm in pain. I have a face for radio. 😂
I see you found advance footage of what Marvel movies are going to look like now that superfans are in charge of giving feedback that will shape their production! 😂
Gotcha. That's a good clear plan. So, with the month's rent paid, you'll be able set that passport appointment next, get the pets certified, solicit help from family with tickets, and clean out the apartment. Then be out, ideally, by the end of October?
Becca Becca Becca!
Tell me a neat fact from your history studies! And another from your theology studies!
😀 I'm all ears!
Hello Nauties. It’s been an emotional roller coaster past week dealing with family and friends in East TN with hurricane. Just heartbreaking. My home town where I grew up. My immediate family is fine. Some friends are good, some lost everything and have some family missing still in Unicoi county or Ashville area. I am exhausted honestly just dealing with so many emotions this week trying to get back to a sense of normalcy. Feeling blessed for everything I have today Hurricanes suck. 👩🦰
Every state is different, so I don't know your particulars, but are you saying that you don't have the usual 30-day protection on people who've been living in the same space for a while, which is usually afforded under tenancy acts irrespective of whether you or not you have a lease?
Yes! That was one of his first two major disappointments when he came into office. He rode high on a campaign promising electoral reform and changing Canada's record on complicity in ethnic cleansing in Yemen by doing away with Harper's arms deal with SA.
Then, riding high on a majority win, he claimed that Canada didn't need more electoral reform - and further said that he couldn't renege on a contract with a strong economic partner. 🙄 It's not just the US that has work to do!
I ask because I have a sister who's autistic and ADHD, and we often walk through task lists when things get overwhelming for her.
I know the panic of an eviction notice can easily crowd out strategic thinking, but if you need to renew your Colombian passport, that *has* to come first, because it might take a while to process.
Then setting up appointments for your meds and your pets, to secure all that you need for your flight.
Then the flight, and packing up?
This is really important, Marce, because you're just looking to hold on to get that passport, vaccines, and plane booked, yes? I'm guessing the passport is actually the biggest bottleneck, especially if you say you need to travel for it (so, the Colombian embassy?). Colombia is having a really tough time with the company it uses for passports, so you need to get that application in ASAP, if so.
Oh I needed this today. Thank you. 💛
“Love the earth and sun and animals, Despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, Stand up for the stupid and crazy, Devote your income and labor to others… Re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book; Dismiss whatever insults your own soul; And your very flesh shall be a great poem.” ~Walt Whitman~
I moved through academia for a few years, so I saw this shit in action: people trained in the latest "with it" vocab, who would apply it in ways that kept everything running in the same shitty way it always had.
The corporate grift is real!
Did you ever see Patton Oswalt's great set on this? Essentially, elaborate language doesn't make you a better person, and it *does* let a lot of shitty people slip by.
Oh, that's a funny one. I'd say this piece is deconstructing liberals more than leftists, though. Liberal "progressives" routinely play these language games, hustling in academia and business spheres because it's good for career advancement among a certain set who want to appear "with it" without significantly changing the way they live (in comfort!).
You can always tell the difference between libs and leftists because class doesn't come into play in the way they tackle any of this.

😂 I thought I'd been very productive this morning, sending off five voice messages before three work emails. But then I saw this new piece show up and... honestly? I'm regretting introducing North Americans to WhatsApp. They don't know what to do with the VM function!
(Going to be listening to this one at 2x while doing chores, I tell you what!)
Yep, that's a sound reaction to *gestures at the state of things*!
