@LiberalLibrarian believe me, when I practice law, I hated some of the people in the business too. Once upon a time I was working with somebody and the situation was so terrible that I became an undercover informant for the board of bar overseers The guy almost lost his license. I was pissed he didn’t lose his license. To this day I loathe that man.
@LiberalLibrarian he probably will get eaten alive by the federal prosecutors. What he’s going to try and do is work out a plea agreement. And he’s going to look to other members of his firm to help him. Because somebody in his firm will have some criminal law experience. The fact that I had to go that far down means that they were absolutely desperate to get anybody.
@redsheri1 I have been on the Internet for so many years and seen so much since the middle 1980s that nothing much surprises me. Years ago when they had things like C – link it could be dangerous to be a woman online. And yes, there are people who will shock you, but he is basically a creeper. And people will get away with whatever they can get away with. Realized that Internet communications come under the purview of the FBI. If this person is bugging you that much contact the local FBI office
@LiberalLibrarian somebody once asked me why lawyers represent people who are clearly guilty of crimes. And the response from the criminal bar is that constitutional protections for all individuals are more important then whether the lawyer wants to represent that one individual. It really depends on how far that attorney is willing to go down the rabbit hole.#politics
@TrueBloodNet OK I just have to ask, a piece of Druid? As a member of the Druidic Association of North America do I need to be running from you? 😂
@redsheri1 the only reason it doesn’t happen here is we have better moderation. It happens everywhere. It used to happen to me on Twitter. I had a couple of problems on LinkedIn in the past and that’s crazy.
#WritingCommunity I was on tap to present a writing class today at the library. And I was multitasking. I managed to get part of my multitasking done, unfortunately it was NOT the part involved with my teaching. )This is a weekly class.) I ended up leaving virtually everything involved in the writing class at home. I”It’s a good thing that I am not bothered by extemporaneous speaking, although it was nothing like a normal class we would have.
😬😱🤷♀️.
@th3j35t3r I don’t remember exactly what it was that I walked away from Twitter but I’m very happy that I never looked back. I don’t advertise my book there. I don’t do anything I just figured that it’s going to collapse. It’s too bad that more sane people don’t come here. I don’t post very much, but I usually come and check in every day or two for a breath of fresh air.
@kel I came down with Norovirus and that beat me up. I have a book launch the end of July and got way behind. I'm also teaching once a week rather than once a month because everyone else is sick. So I swing by and read, but don't talk much. I just finished sending off some advance release copies to reviewers. I'm going to get some sleep soon. But I needed a dose of sanity so I came here first. :D
@kel I lurk, mostly. It's great here. Just mega-slammed for the last couple months.
@walterbays IMO SCOTUS has been going downhill for years. It's become exceptionally corrupt. IMO it's worse than the Taney Court, which was (IMO) the worst court ever.
A constitutional amendment to limit to 20 years would be good, if we could get anyone to agree.
We need a stringent involuntary code of ethics that will result in expulsion if not abided by. Another hard thing.
@walterbays .One of the biggest surprises I had when I was in law school was finding out that the Supreme Court heard a little over 800 cases a year, and they were limited in the number of cases they could hear because of all of the cases between states, between the US and another nation and a few other instances that makes the the court of original jurisdiction. If you are interested, in learning about all the cases that the court hears, consider following SCOTUSblog.
@Aranciata_rosa @Indefinite_Article in the extended family we have a variety of severely disabled individuals who cant function who have care plans set up. After I became an attorney, I suggested to sibs that they needed to get lawyers to deal with some of these issues. I couldn’t because I wasn’t licensed in their states. My father had dementia, and lived with my brother because bro was available. We seem to be very pragmatic and have specialty areas. Not all families are that way.
@Aranciata_rosa @Indefinite_Article call my mother was dying. I was a social worker with a thanatology focus. I ended up moving back home for a while because it made sense that everybody else lived somewhere else. After I moved overseas my brother became the caretaker of our father when he developed dementia, because that made sense. When our father died, her brother was the administrator of the estate because he was a CPA and it made sense. It seems we are very pragmatic people.
@Indefinite_Article Not all families are the same. While I am the youngest, I am also the most strong willed. I am the one with the most education, and yet I am the one with the least amount of financial resources. If the others plan something and they want me to attend, they find out what it would require to have me attend assuming I am on the same continent and in the same hemisphere. That said, if I want my siblings to do something with me, I make accommodations for them.
@Indefinite_Article re: adult siblings... me: WTF? Once you're adults who TF gets to order another sibling around? Or manipulate them into doing something.
Where's the WTF are you talking about button? LOL None of us tell anyone else what to do, how to do it, or when.
We generally live in the same hemisphere, but not always.
@lenaoflune Sorry to hear that. It happens. :(
#politics One of my friends sent me a copy of this from the London Times. They are rolling together all of the orange smoke from Canadian fires, and Donald Trump. .
#politics I admit to a certain fascination about what attorney in Florida will be willing to commit career suicide by representing the former guy today. In lawyer circles that I sometimes tap into as a retiree, it sounds like everybody is terrified of getting near him. Lawyers are saying that their wives would divorce them, and their children would never speak to them again. Some of them would lose partnerships at law firms. He’s radioactive.
@robfwtx that would be interesting if it lost its connectivity to the Internet. I don’t really care because I’m completely off Twitter and I don’t understand why anybody bothers with it anymore but hey, it would be a fitting end for the thing.
