I’ve been awake all night, trying to absorb what I am learning from the election results.

I am dismayed, disappointed, and dumbfounded. I am grieving and afraid.

I’m not trying to find silver linings or ways to make this feel OK, and I won’t ask that of any of you.

But I WILL ask you to stay—stay here on CoSo, stay connected, stay in this messy and scary world we inhabit.

Please don’t succumb to despair. The future needs you. And we are stronger together.

Trump won men by 10 points, up from 2 in 2020, per CNN's exit poll and Pew's 2020 data. White, Black and Hispanic men (big time) all moved toward Trump.

Meanwhile, Harris won women by 10 points after Biden won women by 11, per CNN and Pew.

Status: Angry

Over the next 4 years we will learn if the American Experiment as embodied in the Constitution can withstand the rise of an openly fascist President put into power by over 70,000,000 American voters, a Commander-in-Chief who denigrates the military, an administration staffed by the soulless ghouls who are willing to join the cabinet and act as advisors, a corrupt SCOTUS, and a Congress filled with sycophants incapable of doing their jobs.

It seems unlikely.

In early October I was in Nashville to celebrate the life of John Prine. My wife and I went to the Johnny Cash museum and then had lunch in the bar connected to it. While watching some baseball at the bar an ad for Kamala Harris came on the TV. A white woman sitting next to us made a face of such utter distain at the mere look at VP Harris' face. That look scared me and it's one I'll never forget. That was my first doubt that women would coalesce for their daughters. It keeps playing in my mind.

I am going to be very interested to find out why, in a supposedly high-turnout election, fewer people appear to have voted than in 2020.

Serious question ladies. What do you do if the man in your life ( not husband) voted for the Excrescence?

This may be one of the few places to remain in which one can freely express themselves, as long as they’re not a dick, and do so without reprisal or the fear of them. 20 years ago such a statement might seem paranoid hyperbole, now it’s pragmatic gratitude.

There are no legislative or judicial brakes for what is about to happen. Take care of yourselves, folks. It's about personal welfare now.

I'm devastated.

But - I am not a panic person. I'm right now writing up how best - considering the shit future headed our way - to position my family.

The USA had a good run. I just can't believe that so many Americans can't see what they've just done.

Stockpile/archive as much information as you can - I've got the feeing we'll be seeing a lot of information restrictions - including internet access.

So a beautiful, talented woman was denied, in favor of a brainless pile of excrescence. Why? IMO race & misogyny. A piece of garbage, if white, is always preferred. I was originally afraid of Kamala as a candidate because of that, but Kamala wa magnificent, folks must have seen that. Still, only race and gender counted. The relentless, not-our-friend, the media, has a large part of the blame.
