@SupplySgt What would have been more effective was if the losing states had lost their self-governance for a minimum of 10 years.
The main reason that the Southern states were able to continue with racist and nativist policies was that they were allowed to carry on governing themselves, which allowed them to convince themselves that the Civil War was just this unfortunate kerfuffle that they didn't really lose - It was sort of an honorable draw.
Losers have to suffer in war.

I hope everyone is okay in the NY/NJ area.

Now that I have gotten that out of the way, the last time I experienced an earthquake in NY, I was in a well fortified building in the Bronx & despite the fact that the epicenter was north of Westchester County, we didn't feel it in the building.

People couldn't stop talking about it for days. I was like guys, we literally didn't experience anything. Meanwhile the all glass building down the block had a lot of judges clutching their pearls. 😂
