Who wants to tell Lauren Boobert that apologizing only after the video comes out doesn't count?

Śeriously, the golden rule in is apologize truthfully right up front, get ahead of the story; after that, you can go back to lying.

Shanah Tovah U'metukah to all who are observing. May 5784 bring us health, happiness, and hope.

I'm sure I just heard someone say, "Yeah, Mercury's in Gatorade."

That was a morning. Guy coming from an HVAC company to give us a quote on a heat pump (no more gas appliances!). Before he arrives, horrible noises from the garbage disposal; by the time we figure out the source (a dime) it's stuck in there like a limpet. Give HVAC guy the $2 tour and while he's working on his quote I try to pry that dime out of there. And try. And try. Finally, sitting on the front porch going at it with wrecking bars, pliers, screwdriver, out it comes. Reinstall, all good.

I hope you find this thread throbbing. Have a throbbing day!

Or just the word "throbbing." "I had a throbbing day." "That coffee was throbbing." "Please give me more of that absolutely throbbing meringue!"

It's probably not healthy, but I find myself wanting to work Chuckie Kirk's "Throbbing middle finger" expression into everything, by way of mockery. An expression as overheated as that deserves it.

Dropping off my usual 4 loaves at the Community Loaves hub, then wanting to go to the bakery to pick up a loaf for myself because I ran out yesterday and don't feel like baking... bakery's closed already, so maybe I'll just whip up some dough to proof in the refrigerator overnight and bake in the morning...kinda more commitment than this retired guy wants. (Definitely a 1st world problem.)

My opinion.

Stop all the bickering about who the democrats should run. Unless you are a convention delegate, or a local party leader.
The most important thing is to get out the vote, and take back the house with a large margin. Maybe add a seat or 2 to the Senate.
Find a vulnerable house seat and work to take that back.
The down-ticket elections have a much greater effect on your day to day life.

Can you imagine what if we held both the Executive and all the Congress.

I just wrote to one of my senators about this stupid stunt Tommy Tuberville is pulling (apnews.com/article/senate-mili).

But the Democrats (1) can't easily change the rules to defang this moron, and (2) have little incentive to do so: there's an election coming soon, and a Republican who serves himself up as the epitome of stubborn obstructionism, on an issue where most voters agree with the Democrats, is not something you just throw away. Not till after the election, anyway.

"But what does it mean to reproduce the female body? No matter how close [surgeon Marci] Bowers comes to creating what she considers 'normal' and 'natural,' she can never quite reach that goal—not due to a lack of technical skill, but because there is no such thing. The female body, as we have seen, is an idea, and an ideal."

TIL: As recently as 2021, the NFL "race-normed" settlements for chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Black players got less than white players got, if they got anything: under race norming their claims were denied more often than white players'.
"The rationale was that Black players had started with a lower level of cognitive function and thus weren’t as severely impaired as they would be if they were white."
The NFL ended the practice shortly after it was exposed.

Ravens heard and seen this morning. Not exactly rare around here, but as often seen as crows, so a nice start to the day.

WaPo knows how to bring the snark:

"Similarweb’s estimate of how many people in the United States visited Truth Social in July ... totaled just over 1 million, down nearly 20 percent since June. [...] Three times as many unique visitors in July visited the websites for The Old Farmer’s Almanac and the Denver Gazette ...."
