TIL: As recently as 2021, the NFL "race-normed" settlements for chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Black players got less than white players got, if they got anything: under race norming their claims were denied more often than white players'.
"The rationale was that Black players had started with a lower level of cognitive function and thus weren’t as severely impaired as they would be if they were white."
The NFL ended the practice shortly after it was exposed.
