Actually, back in the 70's it worked all the time because they had dedicated maintenance crews going in every night to clean and service the "complex" equipment.

They also closed at 10PM nightly in the area I grew up, so the teenagers could go home for school.
@GaryPoole and the slurpee machine didn't work on seven eleven day either.
