Remember when folks were going on about Boeing machinists turning down 25% over 5 years? These guys turned down 40% raises (asking for 77%) and demanding zero automation for 6 years.
The *average* member made about $200K in 2022, not including benefits.

This is the BP where our #Helene encampment was, taken Sunday afternoon (not my picture). We left in the early morning "Dark o' Clock" hours of Sunday - the sign was undamaged, the power lines were undamaged and well, there was a road.
Glad we took our shot when we could - terrifying how short our window was.

I'm saddened by the news of the passing of Dikembe Mutombo. I met him at a UNICEF banquet, introduced but Caryl Stern. She told me how much he did for his people and that he always had a business plan in hand. He took time to talk with me and to take a few photos. What a giant

Black Mountain - this is the actual location of the BP we left on Sunday. They are now urging anyone who can leave to do so, but the limiter is gas.
We were lucky enough to get to a station before they started limiting quantity, so we could make it all the way home.
I'm really sort of upset by the coverage of Helene. It's a massive event and it's getting "Oh, look at what happened to the hillbillies, hippies, and retirees" treatment in much of the media - focused on Asheville (which is a complete mess) but...
There is flooding and damage throughout Appalachia - small communities. If folks were near a body of water, they probably lost something or someone. Family homes and forever homes.
It's a big deal - Katrina or Andrew sized. 🙁
