I find the demand that a political candidate be personally likeable to be absurd.
I despise JD Vance not because he is personally unlikeable. He certainly seems to have negative charisma and to be utterly out of his depth as a retail politician, but the reason I despise him is simply because his ideas are authoritarian, fascist, bigoted and batshit nonsensical in equal measure.
You don't have to like a leader personally to work for them.
