Has anyone here tried "shampoo bars" Seeing lots of ads saying they are the best for our hair.
@Coffee_and_Salt
I saw reviews saying that as well. How did it like it for your hair?
@CinnamonGirlE I found that the shampoo was strong enough that I required the conditioner.
you can experiment.
there are youtube videos showing how to make your own rice water for rinsing your hair. just soaking rice before you cook it, strain it, keep the water for hair rinse.
@holon42
I have seen those. Thought about trying it. Have you?
i have thought about it, but i'm too lazy right now.
and i don't usually eat rice any more. so no supply.
@holon42
I rarely eat rice either. They have some rice water scalp serums I thought about using.
you can also use aloe vera. i could definitely do that since i have an aloe vera plantation in my living room, but, once again, lazy.
li do cut leaves as moisturizer and for cuts, burns, rash, etc.
@holon42
My hair took a hit after some weight loss and I am throwing everything I can at it to get my thick hair back.
ah right. motivation 👍🏼😅
@holon42
That does it! I don't want to be bald. 😳😂
i feel ya😳
@CinnamonGirlE
I get mine from the Grove company. They work well, and no plastic.
Cinny, when it comes to hair, shampoo and conditioner are only topical. It's more internal when it comes to hair and hair loss. Proper diet is key. Also, never dry your hair when it's soaking wet. Let it air dry to get most of the moisture out. Hair is most fragile when it's wet.
I personally take Biotin and it helps.
@Spagesgallo1 I saw my derm last week and discussed it with them. She feels like I have crossed the lexicon and it will start growing again. During the weight loss, I lost a ton of hair. I also had Covid right before that.
I have tons of baby hair coming back, but just want it to come back faster. I am using biotin as well. I'm probably the healthiest I have been in my adult life, but the weight loss was tough on my hair.
Oh....oh yeah! Between the two that will definitely do a number with causing hair loss. But thank goodness it's growing back. Just keep doing what you're doing. Hair grows 1/2 inch a month. It will happen. I know it can be stressful, which you don't need. But it will come back again. Your body was traumatized. Try and be patient with the process.
@Spagesgallo1
It is coming back, but just slower than I would have liked. The weight loss was the important thing at the time. Now that I have reached stability again, I think it will. Just throwing everything at it I can 😉
@CinnamonGirlE
I know, it's definitely a process. A 1/2 a month might not seem like a lot, but it adds up. I understand about the weight loss being a priority at the time. Now that you achieved your goal, your body will stabilize again. If you are looking for good products, It's A 10 has an amazing product line. Their made with keratin which hair is made up of. They have an amazing leave in conditioner. Especially with the cold weather coming, you want to make sure your hair retains moisture.
@Spagesgallo1
I had been using Olaplex, and now Amika. I have never heard of A10. But I will definitely look at that.
Those are good products too. It's A 10 has been around for a long time. You can get it in a salon or buy it from their website. A little pricy, but a little goes a long, long way!
@Spagesgallo1
Not as pricey as in Olaplex and Amika. 😳
It depends. The 4oz. Leave In Conditioner is $23. The 10oz is $45. They also have a 2oz for $16.
@Spagesgallo1 ah, maybe not then. Well, if it works I don't care about the $ as much.
I looked up the prices and they seem comparable. Like I said, with Its A 10, less is more! You can get the 2oz and see if you like it.
@Spagesgallo1
Thanks Steph ☺️
My absolute pleasure Cinny! I enjoyed having some real girl talk about something as simple as hair and hair products! 😊
@Spagesgallo1
Me too Steph, thanks for the girl talk. ☺️
How often do you wash your hair? Washing often can strip out the oils that protect your hair and scalp, and artificial oils from product feel nice, but they're still not your body's.
Unless your hair gets dirty or greasy, you might want to try washing it _less_ often, and give it a chance to attend to itself.
Massaging your scalp can really be helpful. It stimulates blood flow and the skin.
@AskTheDevil @Spagesgallo1
Every three days or so since the loss. I have been doing scalp massage every night.
If I massaged my scalp every time I got stressed, it would be down to my knees, but it's still good stuff!
@AskTheDevil @Spagesgallo1
I can't do it every time I am stressed, lol. But nightly seems to work ☺️
@CinnamonGirlE my SIL recently posted on FB that she switched to bar shampoo and was amazed at how nice her hair is after using it. She has very long, thick hair.
@AverageCitizen
I may give it a try. Thanks ☺️
@CinnamonGirlE A nephew's wife but she couldn't remember the brand. She's says it's risky because she tried about 6 before finding one that wasn't gooey on hair. She wanted because she travels often to Africa and Asia and this simplified packing.
@TheresaVermont
Yikes! I will read reviews before I purchase. When she landed on one, was it helpful?
@CinnamonGirlE Yes, she really liked the one she landed on. But she tried so many she couldn't tell me which.
@TheresaVermont
Thank you, I may give it a try and will report back.
@CinnamonGirlE I underestimated and overused the product the first time. A little goes a long way. The conditioner bars are nice too.
No plastics. Lasted a long time as long as you set it in a place where it could dry.
