T minus 5 hours until my Covid booster. It appears I have successfully evaded acquiring some variant of that bastard virus between setting the appointment and actually getting the shot.

A friend and I disagree on boosters. He is research savvy & has reservations because of a small incidence of vax related myocarditis; a condition Covid infection can cause.

My having high moderate (not needing hospitalization) C19 experiences sways my risk/benefit analysis to boost. How about you?

@CanisPundit I'll always take the vaccine. "The relative risk (RR) for myocarditis was more than seven times higher in the infection group than in the vaccination group" NIH.

So much else can go seriously wrong when infected by the virus and I'm giving my body the chance to practice fighting it.

Friday fun is our booster too. quiet weekend on deck ...

@LnzyHou thanks, will do. To date, with one Moderna and up to date Pfizer on board my only noted side effects were soreness at injection site and minimal drowsiness/lightheadedness. @Annothername

@CanisPundit @LnzyHou that's great. I am usually achey feverish and sleep most of the next day. We'll see about this one Moderna hits me harder but this will be Pfizer again

@LnzyHou @CanisPundit Funny story, Walgreens doesn't take our insurance, which is Blue Cross through one of the Big 3. We could have paid cash, $150 for Covid and $70 for flu; times two would have been an expensive date! Will have to wait for an opening elsewhere...

@Annothername @CanisPundit

I too have taken every booster. Got covid a year ago treated immediately by Paxlovid. But much worse was flu (had also taken flu shot). Ended up in ER difficulty breathing.

RSV vax on board. Getting covid and flu next week. I know too many with covid now.

Mask up 😷😷😷

@LnzyHou @CanisPundit I had it a year ago too and it laid me up for 2 weeks though I wasn't as sick as you were. I don't want it again. Skipped my 40th HS reunion last weekend & someone went knowing they were infected - now others are testing +. It's the wild west out there.

I'm one of 3 maskers of 125 person office. 😷😷😷 every day

@CanisPundit One of my oldest friends & former band mate has gone full-in on the anti-vax stance. He put a post up last week how Covid vaxes are killing more people than Covid itself (which is 'basically the flu')and that he doesn't want to hear from 'liberal idiots who have been brainwashed by Bill Gates'.

This despite the fact that a mutual friend came very close to dying at the start of Covid (and never fully recovered) and HIS OWN TWO BROTHERS were in ICU for 2 weeks with it! 🙄

@BillyBones @CanisPundit

What those _____s fail to realize is that this wasn't even the big one that Gates and others were warning about. Although the deniers worked very hard to turn it into the big one, that has yet to show itself.

@CanisPundit @BillyBones

Not sure having reservations because of a small incidence of vax related myocarditis and being research savvy really belong together in the same sentence but OK.

@Sr0bi @BillyBones just as we do not know the long term effects of Covid, we do not know the long term effects of the vaccines and boosters. My go to example is EBV which we know find with about 2% of the infected developing related cancer. Over 90% of the world population gets EBV whether they know it or not.

Some studies suggest that some vaccines may increase incidence of chronic immunological diseases: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/

This is not all black and white, right/wrong.

@BillyBones my referenced friend has worked in clinical trials (private sector) and currently in clinical research (government). I understand what his experience teaches him and respect that. He is not off the rails and there can be legitimate disagreement without going all paranoiac. The scientific understanding of Covid continues and does so faster than the public's adapting to it.

Also, he has not the same degree of symptoms when testing positive as I. My experience last Winter rattled me.

@CanisPundit

Looks like I am scheduled for the same time as you :)

I don't even have any health conditions other than seniority making me eligible, but I still get in line as soon as I can.

Fortunately my reactions to vaccinations are usually mild, so fingers crossed for both of us today ;)

🤞

@CanisPundit Myocarditis is rare and treatable. And it’s not contagious.

@CanisPundit there's the social responsibility portion of this as well. Not only are the chances of severe side effects much lower via the vaccine than via unprotected infection, it also drastically lowers the possibility of passing the virus to others who may be high risk and unable to vaccinate.

@Damobius there doesn't seem to be anything conclusive about that other than one's likely reduced viral load.

If one tests positive or is symptomatic their practicing social distancing, masking, and frankly staying the hell away from public places is called for.

Our reality is masking is more effective in reducing the spread of Covid than it is in in preventing contraction. Our eyes are not typically "masked" and are a medium for droplets.

@CanisPundit

When you lose four people to covid, you tend not to listen to private research. Especially when one is family member who did her own research. Dead at 62.

I’ll take them all. Plus RSV, flu, pneumonia and shingles. Masking all the time now as well 😷

@LnzyHou sorry for your losses. Covid is cruel and capricious. Fairness is not it’s way being. Since first reporting I’ve gone where the science is. And that changes. I’m not bleaching my groceries let alone having them delivered to mitigate exposure.

If not an abundance of caution, at least reasonable caution. I’m onboard.
