She parked the car, and walked round the corner of the house just as my toy tank "hit a mine" (actually a tiny pie plate filled with black powder, buried in the garden and set off via a wick made of paper towel). The tank flew about 4 feet in the air. My mom said "inside" to my dad. He said "what, he has safety goggles and ear plugs".

@kenc313 I often think about how he was reduced to "the funny guy who talked about being on coke" and how Ali was reduced to the guy who hit people real hard" and Martin was reduced to nice quotes that make mayo folks like me feel comfy and Malcolm was just demonized and then I think about people who say that the media has no power and I want to scream into the void.

@FPonTheDL honestly, I'm fine with/encourage protest. But hostage taking like the Freedum folks? Or just watching the fash wander about the place? Like there is a vast difference between "you're not doing enough to save the planet for our generation so now we're going to scare you a bit by being very very angry" protestors and "look, they don't want death camps, they just want an ethnostate" protestors.

@Rickbflony to be totally fair, some of the more restive protestors are quite happy with this eventual turn of events.

@Rickbflony on any given day in Montreal there is at least one protest going on. As long as it’s polite (or doesn’t challenge the status quo too much or is about something foreign or is enough of a political hot button issue) the Montreal police will play along. Too many lefty or student groups ans it’s declared illegal and, in the absence of a riot they help kick one off.
