DJT hates women. But there's nothing that he hates more is a person of color trying to hold him to account - DA Bragg, Fanni Willis, and especially a black woman journalist.

BUT even if everything was a softball question, he can’t prevent racism and sexism creeping into the convo.
Partner suggested he thought this was one of his rallies, where everything could be laughed off. That “when did she turn black” would be met with snickers.

I don't think he thought of it as a rally at all. The disdain for being there was dripping off of him. He knew where he was. He knew why he was there. Like everything else, he couldn't control some of his most feral impulses & that is to be racist, sexist, & misogynistic to his own peril.

He's unable to speak on any policy issues, he responds poorly to being challenged, his rah rah rally bullshit won't fly... If Ms Harris were to successfully push him hard on the debate stage, he wouldn't come out of that looking like the strongman he needs to present to his cult.

@Bix I don't think its wrong that he had some strategy involved. He wanted Laura Loomer to be part of his campaign but his aides ran interference on that. Now he's behind. He goes to NABJ to take the L and the sets Loomer and her icky ilk loose to follow up. I think this is Trump realizing he's behind and lashing out at the caretakers that have steered him this far. He's tearing himself and simultaneously proving why he needed to be managed. His cheese isn't anywhere near his cracker anymore.
I see people saying that Trump went to #NABJ fire up his racist base, that makes no sense to me - he was tied in the polls.
