Testing something out, and posting one of my own music videos at the same time.

In 1974 I turned 10, and music really started getting interesting. We're now seeing the rise of artists who are a reaction to what's already out there - from Tom Waits to Sparks - while rock gets harder and more theatrical and both California Rock and Yacht Rock are born. Funk and even Reggae gets noticed by the mainstream.

Of course my 20 song limit will never show up again. ^_^

There is also a blog version of Radio Free California, which I will link to here. It's exactly the same, plus some commentary and cheap shots. It gets political, NSFW, and I use language unsuitable for polite company.

This week, Radio Free California Episode 2248, plus cheap shots (snark and commentary on the day's news), JesusMaryandJosephandtheweedonkey, and why I've gone dark on twitter

Here is this week's Radio Free California Episode 2248 - chock full of new music!

Big week for new music (2 1/2 hours!) especially from indie artists! New music from Project Ember, half-alive, Julia Pratt, crepe girl, Cigarettes after Sex, B'z, Saturn 17, Stormzy and so much more. Enjoy!

My 20 song limit is completely abandoned now that we've hit 1973. So many classic albums came out that year by The Who, Pink Floyd, Joe Walsh, Billy Joel, Eagles, Springsteen, Bowie, Lynyrd Skynnard, Sly & the Family Stone, The Stooges - the list is just too great.

So here's some music from 1973 that you should know.

1 song, 4 mixes out January 3rd. One of these mixes is available now on the Jango App.

A separate video mix out December 26th.

So I now have my 2022 Spotify Wrapped playlist and it would seem that I listened to Tadeschi Trucks' "I am the Moon" an awful lot. I did. It's a great album to fall asleep to.

My 1971 playlist is kind of special to me. This is the year I went to my first rock concert that I decided I wanted to go, instead of just going with my parents. Three Dog Night.

This is the year Riders on the Storm came out, and I was so entranced by this song. My mom was heavily into jazz and that trance-like feeling that this song and Low Spark of High Heeled Boys gives is something I love to this very day. Also, face it, American Pie.

When I hit 1970 I realized that would no longer be able to keep my playlists to just 20 songs. So much good stuff and so many different directions to go - pop, R&B, Progressive, folk, rock, metal, jazz... It seemed like the Beatles died so that everything else could be born. Just about every song on this list takes pop music in a new direction, and I loved it.

So after over 300 streams for a single that I haven't actually released yet, I'm going to do a slow roll out of the new single on a few radio stations. It's too late to change the release date of January 3rd now. Right now it's only on Jango but I'm going to hit up a couple of radio stations in the UK and Australia where I have friends (and have played my stuff before) for an early push.

Coming soon!

Whether you like their music or not (and I do) Rammstein makes some of the best videos.

My 20 songs from 1969 is important to me because this is the first year of my life that I owned some of these albums. CCR's Willie and the Poor Boys, being a favorite. Dad owned the Santana album, and Mom The Allman Brothers.

Dad hated the Joe Cocker song, which would be hilarious later as he and Cocker became friends in the 80's. It would be years before I discovered why mom liked The Allman Brothers so much.

This is the last time I keep the list at 20.

I own over 20K albums (side effect of being a working musician for 4 decades) so if you ask me again in 10 minutes I will have changed many if not most of the artists on this list.

For those of you curious, here is the link to the leaked single. MIght as well make the most of it. This is 1 mix of 5 that will be available upon release January 3rd. The Radio Edit.

Um...

Huh.

The streaming service known as Jango just leaked my next single - which isn't out officially until January 3rd.

This was unexpected. I've copyritten the song and registered it with the Performing Arts Societies so my rights are protected, but I wasn't ready for that. So do I let them keep playing it or tell them to pull it until the official release date?

Weighing options.
