I don't do a lot of producing/remixing any more - that's more a thing I did in my 30's. but here's one I did two years ago.

Kiffie is a British Synthwave artist who is a friend of mine. The original for this is on his album "Pixelation". I simplified it, added the harmony vocals (just him re-tuned), mixed in some Clara Schuman, and lengthened it by about 15 seconds. Seriously outside my comfort zone, but fun to do.

All to raise $$ for Planned Parenthood.

There is no good Youtube version of this I could find.

Sometimes I like ambient. I really like this. "Liberamente", by Dawn Chorus and the Infallible Sea. I was chasing a rabbit down a hole and came across this.

Dear Eyedress (Idris Ennolandy Vicuña):

Your new album is pretty good but damn whoever did the final mastering is a moron. The entire mix should be at least 10db higher.

Putting any of your songs into a playlist with other artists is going to really showcase how quietly your album was mastered.

I may remaster it myself to play on my radio station. I can't do anything about how it sounds on streaming though.

Mastering matters.

disclosure: I've seen James McCartney perform live at a little club in San Francisco (Neck of the Woods). I saw Sean Ono Lennon perform once by accident - he was sitting in with The Flaming Lips.

I think the song by James and Sean is perfectly fine. It's a LOT more James than Sean. He doesn't have his father's voice, but who does?

BUT! That OUT-OF-TUNE G String on the guitar in the intro really takes me out of the song for a moment. Anyone can hear it, so I think it was on purpose

Chart Position!!!!!

Yeah, it's arbitrary and will change before too long, but I'm still gonna take it.

Link to the song in the first reply.

As promised, here is a link to the blog version of Radio Free California Episode 2416.

Includes not just the playlist, but also radio station programming notes about the various shows we will run this week, talk about the new English Teacher album, 10 at 10, and the extra track you can't get from the Spotify playlist.

And a few cheap shots at news of the day, and a video I liked.

Holy carp, the new album from English Teacher, their first, called "This Could be Texas"....

It's a GREAT album.

Seriously, stream it/buy it (like I did) at your usual places. You will not regret it.

"...So she got permission to change the words, which is just about the most Joni Mitchell thing I can think of."

Joni Mitchell jazz walks an 80's hit of Elton John & Bernie Taupin and it's fucking GREAT.

I believe I have said before that I'm not a fan of country music. I respect a number of artists who perform it, but it's not for me.

That said, this is going to make some people's heads EXPLODE, and I'm all in for it.
