Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers - Friend of the Devil

First time hearing this version and it seems to be the missing link between the Grateful Dead original and the (excellent) Counting Crows cover

It's usually the tracks off the Copperhead Road album that get all the attention, but The Hard Way probably just pips it as a favourite imo

Okay, last one for now, I think. You might well have heard of this already. It's one where I love the cover but I love the original just as much - they've both got a similar vibe but I appreciate the fairly subtle differences in both

The Black Crowes - Hard to Handle:

And the Otis Redding original: youtube.com/watch?v=6TQIKw19Xj

This one's sort've... semi-famous? Is that a thing? Anyway, I really like it

Spiderbait - Black Betty
(ahd to delete and redraft because I didn't include the original video which is a thing of beauty πŸ˜€ )

Some years afterwards, I also found this, which seems to be set with most of the members of the band playing at the Wales Millennium Centre. It's a little different, but I really like this too

Johnny Cage and the Voodoo Groove were a band I first heard on a BBC tv show, called (I think) Britain's Best Band. Loved them on there, but they sadly don't seem to be active now. One of the standouts on TV was a cover they did of Toma Waits - Jockey Full of Bourbon. Here's a bit of it, with a snippet of Sweet Dreams thrown in for good measure

I love cover versions of songs. It's really interesting to hear other people's interpretations of stuff. I do a bit of it myself (may post something one of these days), and I usually start by checking out what other people have done.

This is one of my favourite versions of Sympathy For The Devil. The recording itself isn't brilliant but the energy and talent shines through youtube.com/watch?v=C16z-DBJvP

One of the good things that came out of being on the bird app was the music recommendations. Here's one that someone brought to my attention and I loved: John Fullbright - Satan & St Paul
