Heads up you guys. So far I have neither seen with my own eyes, not received reports about ANYONE either celebrating an assassination attempt on a former President, or sympathizing with the shooter.
THANK YOU.
And I mean that - because I know many folks here can't abide Trump (including myself), but you're keeping your dignity and COSO's reputation handy.
@th3j35t3r
Seriously? There were piles of posts doing exactly that.
@th3j35t3r
Nor should you be expected to, and I didn't mean to imply that. But just so you know, there were a lot of such posts about 3-4 hours back. Things like, 'dang, he missed' and such. I made a fairly pissy post reacting to all of it, frankly disgusted that sort of behavior was taking place here. I don't want to speak for her, but I'm pretty sure txgal leaving was also in reaction to this.

I suspect that many of us on Counter.Social since we don’t live inside a worldview that any such thing is fathomable, and obviously not acceptable in “heart of hearts” of Coso-nauts, perhaps we may engage in the gallows humor more frequently since it’s among people who don’t truly feel that way about anyone?
You know, cuz we know nobody from here is gonna actually do, or genuinely like or encourage such a thing in these parts.
For me it’s too soon for gallows laughs.
@voltronic
Give me say, 10 or 15 minutes 😂

@th3j35t3r
I'm kind of glad you missed it, because it was really depressing to see so many people behaving that way over here. That's why several of us were posting about block fests.
The silver lining I guess is that a lot of that seems to have died down (or I blocked most of the people posting these things). Elsewhere I'm sure things will be churning for days.
@th3j35t3r
Just so we're all clear: Are such posts in violation of ToS?
@voltronic @th3j35t3r I vote yes. Clear violations of the no dickhead clause. $0.02
Celebrating political violence... aye! But laughing at a felon who got a grazed ear... the same felon we were laughing at yesterday, before he got a grazed ear, not so much.

Word
@th3j35t3r Ear,ear.🧐 @kel @voltronic
@th3j35t3r
Yeah, 'celebrating political violence' accurately describes a bunch of what I saw. I'll report in the future.
I saw several in responses to my own thread on the subject. I deliberately chose to ignore them.
@th3j35t3r @kel @voltronic Even I feel pretty bad for that poor bystander.
That's the problem: there's often - perhaps even usually - collateral damage, and once it's done you can't really put the genie back in the bottle.
From an objective perspective, though, it would be interesting to study (if it were possible to study such a thing without any price being paid) what kind of shifts would happen in politics if power was turned into an often-deadly hot potato - who would seek power then?
@voltronic @th3j35t3r
Really good question.
@voltronic @th3j35t3r Fair point. But it is a legitimate emotion to feel given the charged political climate these days. People be emotional these days and act/speak before thinking.
