Dyson uses the absolute worst quality fasteners. It's like they are cast tin. The screw heads strip under very moderate torque, even if I'm using my nice Wera drivers.
Also, they use Philips P2 everywhere in the V10 body except for exactly one T8. Of course that's one of the Torx bits I don't own, and it's the screw I need to remove for this repair. So now I have to buy a T8 driver just to fix this vacuum.
@FreedomATX
If you mean Torx, I couldn't touch the T8 yet because I don't have that size. I just ordered it. But I've stripped a few of the Philips screws they use everywhere else in repairing a couple of these units. The screws are worse quality than the ones included with cheap chinese-made flat pack furniture.
@voltronic Dyson have been notorious for years now. Clever, yes, but with horrendous, fragile build quality.
@stueytheround
I shudder to think how much they would charge if they had the build quality of, say, Miele.
@voltronic You'd need a mortgage 🤣
@voltronic Dyson makes pretty products, but I've bought my last. We learned last winter that their humidifier tank lid has electronics that fail if they get wet.
I am not a fancy mechanical engineer, but putting moisture-sensitive electronics next to a sloshing water tank seems like a poor long-term choice.
@voltronic That's impressive. Those are supposed to be more resistant to stripping.
