The battery on my Galaxy S10e is getting old. I love this phone, but it's not giving me anywhere near a day's worth of moderate screen time at <50% brightness anymore. It otherwise works perfectly. Been looking at iFixit and thinking battery replacement is way easier than some laptop repairs I've done. I want to have 13 and beyond, and would need to do LineageOS for that.

Or, I found a new phone that gets me a microSD slot (mandatory) though I love the smaller size of the S10e.

So...

A53 is on its way. Thanks for the ideas, everyone. There were some good options, but this seems like it will be the best fit for me.

@voltronic I squeezed a few good years extra out of my well behaving S7, so I'm a fan of getting a new battery. Ymmv.

@voltronic What I would recommend is to get the pixel 6. You can find it pretty affordable right now with the black friday sales, and I've found it's quite fantastic for photography as well as videos. It's battery life exceeds any prior owned tablet or phone I've ever used in the last two decades, upwards to 2 days without a need to recharge with light usage between that time.

@PaganMother
The Pixel phones look great, but a microSD slot is a must-have for me. I could live with the 256 GB Pixel 7 for now, but with current deals it's $600, vs. $350 for the A53.

I can accept using an external DAC for my headphones (it may actually be an improvement). But expandable storage is a pry-it-from-my-cold-dead-hands thing for me.

@voltronic Oh I can understand that. I think they have an upgrade that has that as an option. But I could be wrong.

@voltronic i'm same always need a phone with SD slot and 2 sim slot

not a fan of samsung since the great "brick-gate" happened with one i had lol

but out they 2 i'd say the S10e Prism Green or Prism Blue

funfact > the "e" stands for 'essential', which means it packs almost everything the S10 and S10 Plus have, at a lower price

just throwing this in the mix > Both the Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53 come with 128GB base storage both have SD slots

@PaganMother

@voltronic also Samsung.com. is offering $100 in instant credit when you trade in an eligible phone. The deal is available for the unlocked Galaxy A53, as well as for the carrier-locked variants. Additionally, you can get free Galaxy Buds Live as a gift.The Galaxy Buds Live usually cost $169

tbh i ain't sure if that deal is valid it was back in march or something i saw it when i was looking for a new device on a budget i got a nokia G11 real cheap after my one+ died from a fall

@PaganMother

@ecksmc
Thanks for the tip. I looked and it's still cheaper from Amazon without the trade in.

Also, I am not a wireless headphones person. I just spent the past two hours on Audio Science Review looking for good USB-C headphone adapters that will drive high-impedance cans.

@PaganMother

@voltronic I'd say a newer phone with 5G like the A53's probably a better bet.

If you like microSD cards, Motorola, Nokia, and Oneplus phones are also worth checking out.

Some of their mid-range models have headphone jacks too.

@CIWS_35
The 5G is one of the things leaning me towards a new phone, especially now that I am finally on an unlimited data plan.

I don't see any OnePlus phones with microSD slots. I'll look into the Motorola and Nokia options.

@voltronic Sounds good. It's true that OnePlus was unfortunately moving away from that outside of their low end stuff.

Good luck with your search!

@CIWS_35
I stand corrected: The OnePlus Nord N20 has a microSD slot. But only one OS version update is a huge negative.

@voltronic Yeah, there's that. I have the Oneplus N200 (a worse phone, and one released earlier) and the one OS upgrade kind of messed up a few features for a while too.

@voltronic can you add a third option - No idea, but want to see what other people think about something I will most likely never need to know about.

@voltronic the battery on my 10+ has just started to go - not lasting as long as it used to. Nothing lasts for ever I guess.

@voltronic

Bought A52 for my spouse 18 months ago and it has worked well and is still holding charge 24hrs plus. Doubt it will need replacement for a least 18 mos. To 2 yrs.

@Vanitas
I did exactly the same about the same time when her second S10e screen broke, and it's been a solid performer.

@voltronic Samsung will probably stop updating the S10 - My S8 Active stopped getting updated so- the new one

@mhsheikh @voltronic Phonescoop has a nice phone finder that lets you filter by your must have features. Have you maybe already tried that for hunting?
