Name your ONE favorite Beatles song.
Rules:
1. There can be only ONE. I don't care if it's difficult to choose.
2. No responses saying you don't like the Beatles. Take that noise to another thread.
3. No criticizing others favorites, even if it's Hey Jude.
Bonus:
Try to guess my favorite.
I posted in a reply below that wife's favorite is Lady Madonna. 1968 single, never appeared on an album.
Since no one guessed mine, everyone who guessed is now required to listen to it.
Be warned: You may be in tears by the end, because it's so beautiful. Double that warning if you are a parent.
@voltronic - won't guess your fav. Mine has been "Let it be" since I was a child.
@voltronic
And so this is Christmas
Wait that is John Lennon
Beatles : Long & winding Road
Yours = I am the walrus ?
@voltronic
Rocky Racoon
As for yours? Hmmmm...just too many to guess at. I’m okay losing the bonus round. 😁
@NanaWithSoul
I nearly went for that.
@voltronic
I'm going to guess at A Day in the Life for you because of the particular way they used the orchestra.
Ok.
Completely from the gut, because if I think about it I'll never choose:
I am the Walrus

Oompah oompah stick it up your jumper!
mine is while my guitar gently weeps
my guess for yours is...hmmm...blackbird?
and yes, I know there are albums other than the white album... 😁
@opie You know the classic pop trivia about that song?
@opie While my guitar gently weeps.
that it's about how much the band had grown to hate one another?
@opie
I was thinking that the version which was released didn't have George Harrison on lead guitar.
The solo was played by Eric Clapton.
@voltronic A lot of the time my favorites (of anyrhing) almost have less to do with the music than other factors do.
anyway, Blackbird.
closely followed by Guitar/weeps
I like those, too. And am fond of the White Album
norwegian wood
@voltronic I’m assuming it was released as a single?
@voltronic Okay, well I have a guess. It’s on The Beatles and there is a classical reference. “Blackbird”?
@Siren_six
Nope, already said not the White Album.
@voltronic Wiki says that one’s on The Beatles “The Beatles” album. But cheers!
@voltronic Okay, wiki is stupid. It needs to cite both names.
@Siren_six
The album *is* called The Beatles. It's only *known* as The White Album.
The cover is pure white with 'The Beatles' almost invisibly embossed, not printed.
@stueytheround I never remember colloquial titles either. It honestly be helpful if music journalists used both the official and colloquial titles in their articles. They only give the official ones. This is more of a research pick I’m making. @voltronic
@Siren_six
Hmm, actually I don't think it was.
@voltronic
Eleanor Rigby? I forgot that. I love that, too.
@EileenKCarpenter
Nope, but that's a good one.
@voltronic Was your wife's favourite a cover version?
None of the band members are playing? Singing though?
@voltronic
Being for the benefit of Mister Kite
@stueytheround
Nope
@stueytheround
Mine - none of the members playing their instruments. One member not involved in any way shape or form with the production.
Wife's favorite was definitely not a cover. Think late period. And it was an A side single.
@voltronic
Ok.
Well I think your wife's is Across The Universe because as far as I know it only turned up on the Blue best of album (I seriously considered Old Brown Shoe as well).
But I am baffled by yours! 🤣
@stueytheround
No, sorry. I'll give you hers: Lady Madonna.
Mine, I'll give one last clue. It uses the instrumentation of Eleanor Rigby plus one significant addition.
@stueytheround
I don't think I even know Old Brown Shoe, but I know it exists. The catalogue is just so deep!
I was never going to guess this...
@voltronic I worked it out about 5 minutes too late 🤣
@voltronic Hey! I like, “Hey, Jude”! Though, I do have a soft spot for, “Let it Be.” There’s a lot of maternal wisdom in that one.
@voltronic “Let it Be” is a very songwriter’s process song. That’s probably why I like it.
I’m trying to think of a song that wasn’t a hit for them.
@Siren_six
Nothing wrong with Hey, Jude in my book, but some people criticize those who like it.
@voltronic Here Comes the Sun ,, and I say it's alright.
For you, I would guess.. Norwegian Wood
Mine:
Michelle
For all kinds of personal reasons
Yours might be:
Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
Because it has a Mixolydian melody.
Both on Rubber Soul
@voltronic here comes the sun. i play that to help pull me out of major depression episodes.
voltronic: strawberry fields? imo it changed the musical game.
@Dobo @voltronic
I keep going around. I'm not a favorite song person. So I like ones that haven't been overplayed. First one I thought of was "I Will." Then "Hey Bulldog." Then "The Inner Light." Then "I Am the Walrus." And can't forget "Things We Said Today." And "I'll Follow the Sun." I keep thinking of them.
@Museek
No, but both great.
Yesterday?
@Museek
Wow, great song, but not it. You're on the right track with the string section though.
@voltronic
Maxwell's Silver Hammer
(but I have to admit I prefer watching the video version with Steve Martin)
@thereal_renaissance_man Ah yes! The jolly serial killer! @voltronic
@voltronic “In my life” https://youtu.be/YBcdt6DsLQA
Ok, so to help people nail down my favorite:
It's not a big hit, and it's not on either of my two favorite albums, which are the White Album and Abbey Road.
