What are the laundry rules in your house? #CoSoQuestions #laundry
Okay what detergent do y'all use? #CoSoQuestions #laundry
@scottyorange There are no rules. There is only Zuul.
@elbutterfield anarchy laundry? 🤣
@elbutterfield the laundry realm beckons.
@scottyorange Whites...darks... just don't cross the streams.
@elbutterfield the demons waken..."what are your orders?" "Today we mix darkness and light."
@scottyorange can you give examples?
@CarmenSlamdiego anything goes here in #CoSoQuestions just what rules are there?
@CarmenSlamdiego I have one, I put the detergent in before the clothes.
@CarmenSlamdiego oh wait I have two. Turn tshirts inside out.
@scottyorange ahhh.
I hang dry bras. Actually I hang dry all the clothes now, but it was a recent switch for everything except bras.
@scottyorange well as I'm single the only rule is do it when you have/want to, and throw it all in together - none of that separating business 🤣
@NorthernInvader @scottyorange Ohhh, those kind of rules. I stopped sorting colors years ago.
@grayman @NorthernInvader @scottyorange Oh noes! 🤣
@NorthernInvader @BillieBun @scottyorange
I still have running clothes but I stopped running years ago.
🙃
(My right knee told me it didn't want to do another marathon)
@scottyorange no need to sort for the washer, but sort my clean stuff out to line dry not put in the dryer
@scottyorange
Each person is responsible for putting their own dirty clothes (including towels, etc) in the hamper to be washed on laundry day.
I take care of the wash/dry loads, folding & hanging clean items in the laundry room. Each person is responsible for putting clean clothes away in their respective closets/drawers.
The Mister can & will do the wash/dry loads if needed or I’m unable to. He does a good job of it too.
When the kids were home they helped & sometimes did their own.
We have three different dirty clothes baskets - mine, his, towels.
If you want it washed, put it in the basket. Pretty simple
Oh! I got a foldable clothes line during last summer's heat dome but we've had so much rain this summer It's not getting much use.
I was going to detail what gets washed on which day but it felt odd to do that. 😂 😎
@ellesu oh no please elaborate.
😂 Let me gather my thoughts. 😉
@ellesu take your time.
roger that!
Stinky sports clothing gets soaked first and washed separately so the malodorousness doesn't slink into the rest of the clothes. 👍
I do mine, you do yours (I’ll help you figure yours out to maybe prevent unintended outcomes), and my son cannot use Pine Sol as a detergent even though he thinks it makes sense.
1. Always pretreat a stain as soon as you get home by using Dawn platinum spray or Shout! I have concert tshirts older than my kids.
2. Separate whites from light/mixed colors & darks, otherwise you'll be wearing pink underwear forever.
3. Use a bit of oxyclean with detergent and a bit of distilled vinegar if the clothes need sanitizing. Never EVER use fabric softener, but always use dryer balls in the dryer.
4. FOLD your clothes, as soon as the dryer stops.
“Not Today” is a mystery but the others are obvs. Thank you!
I’ve worn all of mine out; also the past few shows I’ve opted not to purchase a tee. This should change soon — going to Primus at SPAC 8/12 and their shirts are usually good.
@InUnfunky @scottyorange
#NotToday was a band I was in 40yrs ago.
When i was young i bought lots of jazz & concert tshirts. I stopped as I got older, ran out of space & grew conscious of my impact on planet earth.
The Midnight Oil tshirt transformed my approach & aesthetic to clothes. Anything I buy to wear has to be very functional, artistic & feel good - tshirts included.
When I stopped using bleach and fabric softener I discovered my clothes stayed whiter, brighter and lasted longer.
@scottyorange We have a pile/basket in our room. If it doesn't make it in there, and I'm not nice enough to ask if you have more, then it doesn't get done. I do the laundry for the most part. Sometimes, if I'm busy, Hubby will start a load, but he asks me if certain garments can be done on the setting he is aiming for before he begins. He never folds. I fold. We keep a lot of clean clothes in the dryer. I'm having a good day if there are no folded clothes on the coffee table.
@scottyorange oh, always clear the lint trap when loading new load into dryer! 😂Only wash cat/sheep laundry with cat/sheep laundry. Washer gets cleaned after a cat/sheep load before you wash work clothes. Certain clothes get washed on cold and dried on low so they don't shrink. If workout clothes are sweaty stinky, we put a scoop of OxiClean Sanitizer in. Try to use hottest water materials can take according to tag. We will always use the same brands detergent and dryer sheets.
@SandHillThicket oh I hadn't thought of temperature. I'm definitely a tap water temp unless needed person.
@scottyorange IMO hot water aids in killing bacteria and releasing the filth better than cold. We have a lot of these sport type materials that require cold or they will shrink, which is when the cold gets used.
@scottyorange Sort! Lights, darks, red/purples.
I pin socks together. Everybody hates it, but I donit anyway. Should have done it when the kids were babies. (They're grown up and out of the house now).
I got better things to do than stand there pairing up socks after they're clean. They go in the hamper together, so I pin as I sort. If one decides to leave on an adventure, it's taking its mate with it.
@GeezerWench the sock adventure! Fellowship of unpaired socks!
@scottyorange No, no, no. They're taking their buddy with them so they won't be alone.
I'm amazed at how few socks we've lost since I started pinning them together. If a pair goes missing, I haven't even noticed.
Ooooh! Sock clips! I love me some sock clips!

Gah, wrong link. Those are too small. You want the nice big ones. Apparently the ones I bought ages ago have shrunk.
Laundry joke.
But, sock clips are great - there are a bunch on Amazon. No real specific recommendation.
Call me when you want to do sinks, drains, and brightwork! Or ants and mosquitoes!
I really really hate extra effort and I love "Stuff that Works". Mainly so I don't have to. 🤓
@Cosmichomicide What I'd like is a bathroom sink drain cleaner. We gum ours up fairly frequently.
Flexisnakes and this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-bwqVuZSp8
After you do it once, it takes you no time when it starts to slow down.
@Cosmichomicide Thanks! I have some snakes for the bathroom sink, but not the cleaner stuff.
A few months ago, I complained about the sink running slow. Husband said, "Well, you have to take out the P trap and yadda, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda."
Can't we just get a snake for the sink?
"Oh, no, you have to blah, blah, yadda, blah ..."
I attempted to do all that AND get the stopper out.
He had to look and see how I was doing, then, since I didn't "do it right," he went and re-did it.
He should have just done it himself to begin with. 🙄
After that, I found sink drain snakes on Amazon and bought them.
taking all the stuff out from under the sink was a pain in the ... back, shoulder, hip, etc.
Fair on removing everything, for sure. If it helps, one good cleaning keeps it running much better and longer than drain cleaner did.
Mr. Cosmic was pretty impressed by the improvements in drain snaking. 🫠
Send him the video and hand him the snakes. 😉
I just use diaper pins to pin the socks together. Diaper pins from 40 years ago are quite sturdy. More modern ones are thin and the wire bends too easily.
*sigh*
I'll have to look at those sock clips. Thanks!
I'm impressed! I'd look like a pincushion! 😝
@scottyorange I don't even sort my colors. The only lights are an old towel we clean up the floor with, though.
Earth Breeze sheets. Zero mess, no bottles or boxes, easy to "measure" (tear) for smaller loads. Oh and do a great job cleaning, LOL!
While we are here (I'm big into laundry stuffs)...
Wool dryer balls - get the good ones, they last forever. I like FriendSheep, but there are cheaper ones. A must have if you have pet hair and things will dry MUCH faster without that film that you get from dryer sheets.
Wad Free totally works for sheets.
And, for completeness, FriendSheep
@Cosmichomicide @scottyorange I also used earth breeze sheets until I found cheaper at the grocery store but I don't remember the name of the new one.
@CarmenSlamdiego @scottyorange
I know it seems silly to spend more, but I started with them when they first came out and were the only ones. I've always liked their model and I love shredding the package into the mulch.
Yeah, I'm a goober for that kinda stuff and I stick with stuff that works.
Heck, I still keep a bar of Fels Naptha because it's been removing insane stains since 1893 and also does a fine job on poison ivy oils on skin.
Cosmic Jr played baseball and rugby. 😱
@CarmenSlamdiego @scottyorange
If you think that's a weird reference, go check the pictures in the reviews - almost all are grass stains removed from white baseball pants.
If you've tried everything, try this.
@Cosmichomicide @scottyorange I have no objections to spending more on brand loyalty that's worked for you. I switched from something I had to get via mail order, and it came in shiny cardboard, to something I could get at the local grocery and it came in recyclable cardboard. Maybe I switched TO Earth Breeze. Haha. I'll check in the morning.
Okay after some thought mine are....remove any detritus before putting in washer, put detergent in washer before clothes, turn tshirts inside out before washing.
