@AnnetteTRemain Must be π
@gemswinc Awww they got ALL my tomatoes last night. :/
@TrueBloodNet Oh no! So sorry π’ π
Truthfully, Iβd feel better with deer eating my floral friends- right now itβs beetles chomping everything!
@QueenOfEverything Uh oh, Japanese Beetles?
yep.... they've decimated my dahlia leaves and now are attacking the flowers. this didn't happen last year... but my garden is a 24 hour smorgasbord for beetles!
the other irritating bugs that live in dahlias are earwigs- they don't eat the flower but they have a wicked sting!
@QueenOfEverything Earwigs, have never been stung by them. In general, I like bug-life, but earwigs π So sorry for your Dahlias, I hope you win!
OMG! All this time I thought it was the Japanese Beetles chomping away on my dahlias... but noooooo- it's the EARWIGS!
You saved my flowers! It occurred to me that I haven't actually seen any BEETLES - only earwigs everywhere.
Longwood Gardens recommends using SLUGGO PLUS- just ordered it from Home Depot!
@QueenOfEverything If it's earwigs, yes, some form of slug bait FeSO4 Works quite well!
@QueenOfEverything The plus is fir those Earwigs π Dahlias will survive!
The dahlias were gorgeous last year. I left them in ground instead of digging them out of the raised beds... so lost quite a few. Will not sacrifice any this year to the EARWIGS! π
@QueenOfEverything Stunning, stunning! π π
i didn't know earwigs stung. hmmm, i shall be more cautious dealing with them.
My first bite- it really stings- but it doesn't leave any mark. Earwigs are known for eating decayed material in the lawn & garden... but it turns out my dahlia leaves & flowers are more delicious. That's a declaration of war!
@QueenOfEverything have you tried beetle traps? @gemswinc
@AnnetteTRemain @QueenOfEverything When I had them, hand picking and soapy water, but perhaps you have too many for that?
@gemswinc I've done both. I haven't resorted to traps yet this year. They aren't as bad as they were in prior years. The traps prevent the little jerks from laying a zillion eggs in the dirt. @QueenOfEverything
@QueenOfEverything I used to keep a cup of soapy water to hit leaves or flowers and knock them in. They can't get out. @gemswinc
@gemswinc Deer are so good at only eating the things you want and leaving what you don't. π
My only grace from woodland critters is the fact I'm on a balcony. My struggle is mites. They're everywhere this year. π
@Halcyon Ooh! That's not good, but it is always something! So goes gardening
@gemswinc
Stinky sprayed them.
@gemswinc They've been reading about daylily salad.
