So the Republicans remade their party into MAGA. Could the Democrats embrace a Progressive remake? Who has the chops to do that?

@danalan This may really piss off some people, but the horseshoe theory appears to be valid. Neither extreme is a very friendly place.

@Pungent @danalan I have no patience for people who cannot acknowledge we all have different priorities and politics is, at its core, the art of principled compromise.

@Pungent Thanks for illustrating my point beautifully. Have a great day.

@MakerWerks

Exactly.

Dems refuse to compromise with progressives, because despite decades of evidence, they think they'll one day win over republicans.

Have a nice microcosm.

@Pungent Yes, everything viewed through a completely adversarial lens, where there can only be one winner, will lead us to a sustainable solution. Your microcosm seems pretty cozy, enjoy.

@MakerWerks

You got mad at me when I asked you which side you believe is worth compromising with, and left in a huff,

But go off.

@danalan We have an oligarchy. MAGA was compatible with oligarchies. This is why it was so well funded, and why the media put all their chips in the MAGA basket. Progressives are not compatible with oligarchies. This is why the media and Democrats make them out to be extremists and terrorists. It is highly unlikely that Democrats rebrand as anything other than the "real republicans". We don't learn easily.

@danalan Sure!

Start by _running for office_ or _electing people you know and can vouch for_.

STOP voting for democrats who court and take money from big donors and superPACs. Make it impossible to get votes if someone takes corrupt money.

Tall order, because most people will argue until they're blue in the face that _their_ candidate isn't corrupt _even though they take the millions_.

Of course, being able to vote may not be a thing soon.

@danalan But yes, absolutely it would be possible to do that (provided there is a party other than the Republicans or whatever they rename themselves).

But you don't do it by electing the same sort of shills other people dangled in front of you by spending millions of oligarch parasite dollars.
...

@danalan
You do it by it being _you_ or people you _trust_ getting into the party, taking positions of influence, and making actual changes.

You don't do it by voting for the hand-picked shills put in front of you by the previous shills.

@danalan I've been saying this over and over for many years.

What I typically get in response is people arguing that the sky is green and 1+1=3, or I get _dead silence_.

Nobody will even engage with the elephant in the room that if you vote for TV heads that media buys put in front of you, chosen by a clique of career parasites, you won't get a voice in government.

@danalan Stop accepting what you're given, and take what you want, build what you want, fight with your own voice and hands for what you believe in.

Stop waiting for someone else to act.

Stop looking for someone whose job it is to build a better world.

It's you. It was _always_ you.

@danalan The rules they took advantage of are not the same for others. And now there are no serious guard rails. Why did SCOTUS allow that? Who knows?! Seems pretty stupid if not vindictive to me.
They also had help with Russian disinformation and voter roll purges in the millions since 2020. Their candidates all sucked except for the grunt speak. Anyone with real money didn’t care. Shit for brains is a means to an end in that cult. Or a never end.
