Cryptocurrency exploded in an ideal niche: the confluence of maximum greed and the death throes of critical thinking. All its proponents needed was enough crypto-compensated celebrities and “affluencers” to sell the concept to the gullible, and it was off to the races.
@bfgreen Crypto should come with a warning label - “do not try this at home”
@cassandra17lina or "your mileage may vary"
@bfgreen @cassandra17lina
I think that is actually part of the problem now days. People expect everything to have a warning label instead of doing research or using common sense. The government, at least the US government, doesn't want you to think for yourself. They prefer to tell you what is best for you. Critical thinking and common sense should be a thing again. Anyway, just my thoughts on it. : )
@sghamel I hear you. However, critical thinking would have told people that picking up a running lawnmower to use as a hedge trimmer is NOT a good idea. For some reason, though, critical thinking didn’t work.
@cassandra17lina Amazingly enough, completely true! It only works when you use it. Have you looked at a ladder lately? The warning labels cover the entire ladder. In the US anyway. I am not there anymore so I don't see it here in CR. They are still expected to think.
@sghamel @bfgreen @cassandra17lina If by people, you mean the insurance companies that are only concerned with profits then I agree.
@MidnightRider @bfgreen @cassandra17lina Isn't that part of the system? It is a litigious society in the US. Capitalism rules.
@sghamel @bfgreen @cassandra17lina I know helmets at say ski centers are all about the cash. I'm glad I skied when you wore a knit cap, same with bikes. It's nice to think they love us but it's damage control to their bottom line in my humble opinion.
@bfgreen @cassandra17lina
Money backed by nothing is chaotic neutral
@cassandra17lina Greed, yes, but the world's criminals were looking for a better way to launder their money and they found it. Cryptocurrency made ransomware profitable. I think that is a much stronger influence than any lack of critical thinking.
I'll also point out that the cryptocurrency markets crashed last year. It happened after Russia invaded Ukraine and the sanctions started kicking in... 🙄
@danielbsmith @cassandra17lina how could those 2 things be linked?!?!!!🫤🙄
@Mike_Morhpeus @danielbsmith Don’t ask me… ask two brothers-in-law of mine who are STILL looking for “get rich quick” schemes that don’t involve hard work. 🤷♀️
@cassandra17lina spot on! The stupidity and ignorance of many was definitely capitalized upon by greedy few using celebrity endorsements - but #crypto in itself is not bad.
