Cognitive ability, health policy, and the dynamics of COVID-19 vaccination
@Gladari I'm in BC Canada and asked my pharmacist yesterday and he said he didn't think BC Ne was going o cover the RSV. I don't care I'll still get it - they didn't cover my Shingrix shots either
Medicare covered both type of Shingles shots. However, here was my dilemma: I've never had chicken pox. My younger sister had a bad case of it when I was about 12 - exposed but didn't get it. My son had a very bad case when he was in Jr. High - exposed but didn't get it. Asked each doc who were pushing me to get it - why if I never had CP? Finally I acquiesced & got the dang thing - but now do I have that dang virus in me that I never had b4?
@Gladari @NorthernInvader it's the dead virus so it's just training your antibodies to take it out at the knees should you be exposed. Mo better
My son’s elderly MIL had RSV for 7 weeks last winter. No thanks. Glad I got my vax.
Thanks for info. MSM was only focusing on babies & children with this owe. Now I'll definitely get one!
Google RSV vaccine
Thanks. Also went to the CDC site about paying for the vaccines, That list wasn't quite complete. I got an email for Medicare a week ago that stated:
"Medicare Part D now covers these vaccines and more at no cost to you:
Shingles
RSV
Tetanus/diphtheria (Td)
Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) (Tdap)
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B, if you're at low risk for the virus
Also, Medicare still covers flu shots, COVID-19 vaccines, and pneumococcal shots."
@LnzyHou @Gladari @NorthernInvader
Thanks for reminder, I have now put it on my calender to schedule all of these tomorrow.
@Bliss @LnzyHou @NorthernInvader
You are welcome. Where I live in the boonies of WV, the local Walgreens makes it really easy to schedule and get vaccines. Consensus seems to be that it's OK to get Covid & Flu shots at the same time. I need to space them out.
Good luck, stay well! 😷💉
@Gladari @Bliss @NorthernInvader
Just read CDC report that says both can be given same time. And CVS advises same thing.
I’m pretty lucky with minimal if any side effects. I
see no reason to double up. I’ll be getting them separately. Why stress my body?
Keep masking in public 😷😷😷
@LnzyHou @Gladari @Bliss @NorthernInvader
Agreed. I am getting separately as well. And this is what my doc recommended also.
Got my first Shingrix Friday. Sore arm only.
@CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @Gladari @NorthernInvader
i get very sick after each vax so maybe I'll just do 1 at a time.
@Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @LnzyHou @NorthernInvader
I haven't gotten sick so far, but I do get a burning, itchy rash on my arm after each of my 6 (so far) Covid shots - why I space them out.
Looking at the timing from the CDC of when the illnesses start spreading it looks like I'll get the RSV next, then the Senior Flu shots.
@Gladari @Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @NorthernInvader
Some seniors I know get two flu shots. I haven’t resorted to that yet. Got my flu shot early last October. Got flu in March. It was worse than covid
@LnzyHou @Gladari @Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @NorthernInvader The flu vaccine is a vaccine against a few strains deemed in advance to be likely for the next season. It doesn’t protect against all circulating strains and if the guess is wrong it may not have much effect at all. Effectiveness for the flu vaccine is 60% or less each year. Still, I get it each year, offers SOME protection. 🤷♂️
@GrazingintheGrass @LnzyHou @Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @NorthernInvader
Good information Pika!
I also learned an interesting factoid on how they decide which strains to protect against. They use the predominant strains that Australia has in the current year (our Summer is their Winter), so they are enough ahead with their Flu Season that we use that data when producing ours.
@Gladari @GrazingintheGrass @LnzyHou @Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @NorthernInvader
And do Aussies use our prevalent flu at the end of our season to formulate their next year's vax? 🤔
@FireMonkey @GrazingintheGrass @LnzyHou @Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @NorthernInvader
Good question. IDK. Maybe some of our friends from there could answer that one.
@GrazingintheGrass @Gladari @Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @NorthernInvader
After 20+ yrs of flu shots and no flu until this year, I must be profoundly lucky.
@LnzyHou @GrazingintheGrass @Bliss @CinnamonGirlE @NorthernInvader
I never used to get the flu shot. Had it only once & that was in High School! Only started getting it a couple of years ago when I became aware of the high dose senior shot.
@LnzyHou
which 2? Covid & flu -or- Covid & RSV?
@Bliss @LnzyHou @NorthernInvader
Covid & Flu.
@Bliss @Gladari @NorthernInvader
RSV last week. Flu & new covid booster first week of Oct
@LnzyHou @Bliss @NorthernInvader
I think ppl with limited time, or maybe even no paid sick leave to get them.
IMO they just want ppl to get the vaccines & if they only get one shot (pun intended) at it, them get Covid & Flu at same time. Not enough data yet on getting all 3 at same time, but they did say, if that's all the time you have, then you can get all 3. Some ppl also have a transportation issue getting to a place that gives the shots.
@Gladari @Bliss @NorthernInvader
I get my shots at CVS and book at my convenience.
@NorthernInvader
I think Medicare is covering that one. Monday will see all 3 available, but because I only have one arm that can accept shots (or blood tests for that matter) I space them out. Plus, I get a reaction to the Covid shots every time - an itchy burning rash on that arm lasting for a couple of weeks after.
