Looked out my kitchen window and saw this. Hoping it’s not close and it’s not harming people!

@ATXJane me too! It’s probably pretty tough territory. 🙁

@peeppeepcircus I do…my notifications aren’t working so I should check it more often.

I was shocked at Oregon’s fire map!! Looks like the whole state is on fire. 😩

@NorCalCherylLyn I just checked it, such fast growth. 5 to 164K acres in 2 days!

@NorCalCherylLyn this brings back painful memories. Did you get any evac warnings or orders?

@peeppeepcircus no…it’s not a threat to us. Worried about those who are up there though.

@NorCalCherylLyn oh for sure, they are going through it. glad it’s not menacing you directly.

@peeppeepcircus it’s blowing away from us right now so we’re good.👍🏻

@NorCalCherylLyn I can imagine. I have made many trips there and enjoyed the times there. I love Yosemite the most.

@BFBucky1 Yosemite is magnificent! I grew up on the eastern side of the Sierras from Yosemite. Totally different landscapes but amazing!

@BFBucky1 you could go from the ocean to the highest spot in the lower States then to the lowest spot in the country in 2-3 days if you were ambitious.

I wonder if the southernmost glacier is still there…likely not. 🤔

@NorCalCherylLyn The glaciers are melting but I have been to Death Valley. I spent alot of time over in the Panamint Valley. I stayed in Ridgecrest most of the time. That was when I learned that cars had governors that limited the speed to 110 mph.

@BFBucky1 Death Valley is such a crazy place! My Grandfather mined in the Panamint Mtns for years. Good terrain for testing your car’s limits!

@NorCalCherylLyn I worked on a project at a gold mine near Ballarat. It was or is a big operation. It was a long drive from ridge crest but it was mostly long straight road with no telephone poles.

@BFBucky1 granddad was a powder money all over ID, NV and CA.

My Aunt’s birthplace is a ghost town now. Gma considered the new house fancy if it didn’t have dirt floors. Mining is a hard way to make a living!

This is Gdad a somewhere in the Death Valley area.

@NorCalCherylLyn Great picture of your Gdad. While out that way I did go over to Death Valley to Scotty's Castle. There is just so much to see out that way.

@NorCalCherylLyn I was going back thru post. I am curious did you Gdad find gold?

@BFBucky1 when he was working in big mines for someone. Not so much when on his own.

Family settled in Lone Pine and he mined things like gypsum, cinnabar and talc until arthritis ended his ability to in the 60s.

@NorCalCherylLyn I see the park fire is going to get worse before it gets better. I hope all is well.

@BFBucky1 yeah, it’s not great news for those folks! Sky up that way is really smokey but all is ok here.

@NorCalCherylLyn do you know anyone in Shingletown? That’s where it’s heading tonight. Can’t believe how quickly it’s growing, and right near the Dixie fire burn. 😔

@peeppeepcircus I don’t know anybody op there. The Dixie Fire was the one that burned from the west side of the Sierra over the crest to NV.

Sure hope this one doesn’t get that big. I heard some official say it could burn for a year!! 🙀

@NorCalCherylLyn the Dixie Fire was so scary because no fire (or megafire, or supersized fire, or monster fire, or whatever these new fires are) had ever crossed from one side to the other of the Sierra Nevada mountains before. 🤯 😱

I saw a projection of the footprint going north, northeast and it was big. 😔

@peeppeepcircus soooo huge and scary! Since that one there was another that burned over the crest, the Caldor Fire. TWO…in one year!! That’s scary shit.

@NorCalCherylLyn oh that’s right, then Caldor! that was a terrible fire year with these new fire behaviors and sizes. sobering and frightening.

@peeppeepcircus they’re getting bigger and more people in the way every year.

@NorCalCherylLyn oh wow.. too close for comfort.. I hope so, too
