Before I see another article about Millennials graduating high school let's do a quick review:

Silent Generation – 1928-1945 (age 79-96)

Baby Boomers – 1946-1964 (age 78-60)

Generation X – 1965-1980 (59-44)

Millennials – 1981-1996 (43-28)

Generation Z – 1997-2012

Generation Alpha – 2013-present

Follow

The cut off line for Gen Z is whether or not they remember 9/11.

The cut off line for Alpha Gen is if they remember life before smart phones.

We have a solid argument for there being a COVID microgen for kids who do not remember life before COVID.

Gen X should be running the country.

Baby Boomers should be retired.

Millennials are firmly in their Parenting Years and some of us have teenagers.

CLARIFICATION:

Saying Boomers should be retired isn't about pushing them out or wishing them away.

It's acknowledging that, a century ago, they would have been allowed to relax after doing their time in the work place.

Boomers should not be required to work until they die. That's not what they signed up for.

@LianaBrooks i wish i could fucking retire. You want us baby boomers gone? Give us some money and we will happily retire and leave you the fuck alone.Til that time, we're still here and grinding every single day

@GlennS I don't want you gone. I want the system that allowed previous generations to retire to be in place so you could be living comfortably and happily and weren't forced to work.

@LianaBrooks @GlennS i think that was graciously stated. I love my boomers. The ones who aren’t digitally savvy and who are also making political decisions about it are not doing us any favors though. There’s an expression “digital native” for a reason.

@LianaBrooks Boomer here. Retired and volunteering. Not immune to needless slights, though. I am not my generation. Nor is anyone else. We’re all in this together.

@cassandra17lina It was not intended as a slight. I don't see Retired or retirement as a bad thing. I do believe that people shouldn't be required to put their nose to the grindstone for their entire lives and, after a certain age, you should be able to prioritize your health and interests without worrying about money.

@cassandra17lina @LianaBrooks

Agree. Sick of double entendre comments about boomers.

Stepping away before I get ugly.

@LnzyHou @cassandra17lina I'm sorry that upset you. It wasn't intended as a slight. I was basing the comment on the fact that the Social Security Administration lists age 66 (and 6 months) as the retirement age and Boomers are 78 and older.

Boomers are all comfortably above the legal age of retirement in my home country. Not everyone can afford to retire, but they should be able to.

@LianaBrooks @LnzyHou Many of us boomers are now shelling out thousands of dollars for 24-hour-a-day aides to assist our aging parents. These costs aren’t covered by Medicare. Don’t ever assume that a lifetime of hard work entitles anyone to a carefree retirement.

@cassandra17lina @LnzyHou
The fact that anyone besides the government is shelling out money for elder care infuriates me and is something I want to change.

It's 2024. The US government has plenty of money. None of their citizens should be paying for medical care at all and the fact we are because of this twisted belief it helps boost military recruitment is disturbing and unethical.

@LnzyHou @LianaBrooks Today, I met the brilliant millennial who had expressed an interest in finding a mentor to share insights on environmental issues. I spent 40 years doing environmental work so I jumped at the chance. I’m one of many boomers investing in future generations.

@cassandra17lina @LnzyHou And I thank you for that. It's awesome that you are passing on that knowledge and helping the world.

@cassandra17lina @LianaBrooks

I’m proud of you.

And sick to death of boomers being maligned. I’ll compare my arrest record over the decades to ANY millennial whose idea of creating social change is talking shit on Twitter

@cassandra17lina @LianaBrooks oh! I boosted that because it just made sense. I didn’t think of it as a slight. Sorry if it was insensitive. I know lots of boomers.. many are still working. My doctor worked until he was 90 something. He retired but came out of retirement and I was glad he did because I liked him as a doctor. Anyway, my feeling is that there should be more generation x in political positions and I thought that’s what she meant…

@cassandra17lina @LianaBrooks Nobody is immune to needless slights. The people I know as contemporaries worked, endured and endeavored. We got a job and fought to keep it, like the Who sang. We didn't get to stay in careers and build wealth like our parents in industry. We were sent away late, broken and far from what we considered to be flush for retirement. Liana, most of us did the best we could, it's shitty global leadership and greed killing us, some of which is perpetuated by boomers.

@cassandra17lina @LianaBrooks
Boomer. Children finishing grad school. Mother is facing assisted living. Nowhere near ready or able to retire.

@LianaBrooks a century ago few made it to retirement age.

@annamousse Yeah, the whole Vaccines Exist Now thing and modern medicine. There's some survivorship bias in our expectations, isn't there?

@LianaBrooks
It's more about someone telling random strangers what they *should* be doing without knowing any of them from Adam's housecat.

@LianaBrooks agree! My parents are retired boomers, but they still do stuff. My mom works part time as a lunch aide at an elementary school to keep busy and my Dad cuts trees for people. They get to pick & choose their hours/schedule. I hope to retire someday and be able to work/volunteer as a choice and not because I have to in order to survive.

@LianaBrooks Some days I feel like a young Gen X, some days like an older Millennial. Most days I’m frustrated to be considered too young to be promoted.
