Lean Staffing practices, especially at hospitals, make me want to flip tables. It's so insanely unhealthy and unsafe to have people doing 12+ hours of medical shifts while making life or death decisions. We know that's not safe, and there are still hospitals doing it.
One of my aunts is a retired nurse and she loved 12 hour overnight shifts as it was a three day work week in the 70s.
But, hospitals 50 years ago had much more staffing and less technology to manage.
@Cosmichomicide I had an aunt who did the same, but she also had serious health issues by her mid-40's because between work and parenting she never took care of herself.
@LianaBrooks I have accompanied complete strangers to the hospital and stayed until their family/friends showed up. Because yeah that situation is plainly nuts
@b4cks4w Thank you for being there for people who need a random friend. <3
@LianaBrooks
I cannot second this strongly enough.
It's insane to have medical professionals working long shifts.
