@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @Kurtroedeger
I wish i could afford one! Last time i was in nyc it was $28. Theres a deli here in Indy that makes an excellent reuben for $20.

@Kurtroedeger
The Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
Other sandwiches are good, and many contain variants of said supreme nom. But none are above the gooey goodness.

@Kurtroedeger
I consider it a variant. If cheese only, then close enough.

@Kurtroedeger Any that are given to me for free.

Grilled cheese. Made with butter and wheat bread, and anything but those horrific kraft singles or american slices.

@Kurtroedeger - do stroopwafels count?

If not, then a Geno's Philly (unless that's considered a taco)

Fallback is a bacon cheeseburger.

@Kurtroedeger easy.

Jewish corned beef on rye w/ Guldenโ€™s spicy brown mustard.

Simple.

Veggie with cheese.

Sourdough or white, sliced bread.
Mayo, either Dijon mustard or olive tapenade (kalamata, the dark one), and mashed avocado spread
Lettuce, thin sliced tomato, thin sliced cucumber, thin sliced white onion, sliced pepperccinis, tortilla chips.
sharp cheddar.
Smoosh down. @Kurtroedeger

@Kurtroedeger if you insist on savory, my current favorite is a fried egg, topped with smashed avocado and melted white cheddar cheese, on toasted whole wheat or rye.

@Kurtroedeger

Might sound weird, and I don't know that it's the regent of all... but the one I've been eating more than any other is garlicy sauteed greens and mushrooms on seedy bread with dijon mustard.
Maybe also some slices of tempeh toasted in a pan, with a drizzle of soy.

@Kurtroedeger There is (was?) a place in downtown Dallas that made an absolutely amazing muffaletta. That was always my favorite, but in the event it's no longer there, I'd say just about any decent taco is the best sandwich.

Let the games begin.

@Kurtroedeger Last week in the small town of Kilkenny, Ireland, I had an open-faced gravlax and cream cheese sandwich on treacle brown bread with fresh herbs that I am still dreaming of.

@codeWhisperer

@Kurtroedeger Turkey with sliced thick cucumbers and a thin slice of havarti and a little sweet mustard on a crusty sourdough. Very summer. Changes with seasons though.

@Kurtroedeger Cuban. Never had one before a few months ago and it was so darn good. Had it at a restaurant.

At home? I make a pretty good Rueben. Corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, on rye bread, then grilled with olive oil and butter. No sauce (1000 Island dressing)

The perennial favorite: slabs of fresh, juicy summer tomatoes, sprinkled with salt and pepper, American cheese, mayo, on soft white bread. When the mood strikes, I sprinkle a bit of garlic powder on those tomatoes.

@GeezerWench @Kurtroedeger Oh, yes, Reubens and hot pastrami are definitely near the top!!!
