I learned today that my insurance company has decided to stop covering the psych med I've been taking for the past 5 years. I have 2 tablets left. My psych NP & I have been trying to get a refill so I don't go through withdrawal.
This is medical "care" in the United States. Gotta love it.
@Impious_Jade I was about to suggest GoodRX. Does the manufacturer have a discount?
@Graci Hm yeah looks like there's a savings card. That might be an option.
That's horrible. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm sorry you're going through that. Several times a year our insurance suddenly stops covering one + of our meds, & we have to do the whole circus.
If you haven't been through this before, call your insurance co & find out specifically why. There is an appeal process, but your doc has to be willing to do it. If doc can prove a medical necessity (ffs that's why it was rx'd, but I digress), insurance will cover it again.
My latest - took a week & 3 phone calls to insurance to...
....get a straight answer on why they were denying my med. Initially I was told it was bc I was on 2 injectables, despite them being for different issues. Found out on the 3rd call it was bc I was on 2 biologics for skin issues (an injectable & a cream used only as needed for break throughs). Had to stop the cream & just suffer the breakthroughs. 🙄
Before that it was my GERD med that they stopped covering. I had to try & fail their 3 cheaper alternatives (again), suffer with...
...daily severe GERD for months, but now they're covering it again after my doc & I jumped through all their stupid fucking hoops (pardon my Saxon).
/rant over
@Impious_Jade I’m sorry you are going through that and I know how you feel. My doctor prescribed a heart medication to prevent a-fibs but it was in capsule form. The pharmacy refused to refill it because insurance didn’t cover it and it was expensive. Took a week for them to get it straightened out and to prescribe it in caplet form which was covered. Meanwhile the caplet supply I got from the ER was running down. They act like it’s NBD when people’s lives depend on the meds.
@Redskye572 UGH. Health care coverage in the US is goddamn *inhumane*.
We're trying to figure out a fast GoodRx solution at the moment. Probably an emergency Rx and then go from there.
