Oh f'crying out loud!πŸ€”...oops;1st, G'Morn!πŸ˜β˜• Now! I've probs w/my own name at times; I often shop brands. I think there are many aging folks/folks who just aren't great at remembering stuff, who will be just as confused as I, if brands start changing names. I'm Black, I support Black Lives Matter, I support LE's, I support equality for all races, religions, & the LGBTQ community. I don't support changing names; my pancakes don't taste racist. Ya gonna change all names, like,πŸ€”Oreo's?πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

@Madken65 I'm not saying that the names are/are not racist and should/should not be changed, just that I personally would get confused & think that if you start changing names, quite a bit will be changed & cause a little confusion.

The new generation will lead the next few years; if they wanna change names, fine. Us old folks will clog up the store aisles while we try to figure out what these new foods(which are just relabeled) are; they think we're slow moving now; wait until the names go🀣

@Gramdma2011

We keep using labels to churn surface shite, we don't want to look any more deeply than that as a nation...

American only work to avoid pain, they really don't work hard, at least via legislative action, to build the good...

@Madken65 Right! The focus right now needs to be on whether or not some of the PEOPLE who may eat these foods will live long enough to eat 'em. The food name debate is just a distraction; don't wanna talk real issues, let's talk pancakes & rice...wtf? I don't care about that right now. I care that these killings of Black men stop. I care that the good cops are suffering because of the actions of willfully negligent ones. I care that all races stop this nonsense & live together as decent humans

@Gramdma2011 @Madken65
I'm not particularly bothered by them changing names, but it does seem like a superficial thing. Heard a couple of different opinions on the subject. Not sure what I think. Other than I agree with you, people's lives should be the primary focus! 100% agree.
(Also, Quaker Oats occurs to me. πŸ˜‚ And Betty Crocker. Do we need to get rid of Betty and replace her with a domanatrix or a CEO or something? Actually, that would be kind of fun. I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE!

@janallmac @Gramdma2011 I like where you're going with the dominatrix theme, wait let me get a smoke and then, please continue...looking for dollar bills now

@Madken65 @Gramdma2011

Betty does NOT need your dollar bills, Ken, but if you're a good boy she might let you have a brownie. Now sit down.

(KIDDING! πŸ˜‚ )

@Gramdma2011

I admit my first thought was that I'd be far more impressed if they had said they would commit to hiring a more diverse upper echelon in the company instead.

@misterfive Excellent idea, that needs to be done more so than rebranding.

I also do not believe in hiring someone just to fill quotas. If a candidate is qualified, race should not disqualify. A White man better qualified than the Black man applying should be the one hired, not the Black man just to be diverse. It would cause more problems than it cured, imo

@Gramdma2011

I agree in theory, but unfortunately the perception of "qualified" has a lot of unconscious racial and gender biases built into it currently.

@misterfive Unfortunately, yes; the way folks' brains think... this will be a hard, if not impossible, feat to change. People will chose to think certain ways because of a 'That's how Mama & Daddy did it' mentality. This applies to all races really. All have these built in pre-conceived umm...πŸ€”thoughts? depending on things heard during raising. Including me.

Most erase & growπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ& some just carry on a 'tradition'. I can co-exist w/both; it's how you function/learn right & wrong with others.

@Gramdma2011

It's hard enough to erase them even if you are aware of them, but next to impossible to erase if you aren't. And the insidious stories taint everyone's thinking.

@Gramdma2011

It's a tough problem. And given how the brain is built, it's not clear if it's a problem that can be overcome. Our brain has spent tens of thousands of years perfecting the Us vs Them paradigm. I suspect our biggest hope is to figure out how to expand the Us to include all humans, but that may take something as drastic and unlikely as actual space aliens to achieve. Clearly viruses can't do that job.
