I worked my way thru college tending bar & waiting tables and people who have relied on tips tend to be good tippers. So I was horrified to realize a major appliance may be delivered today and I have exactly $4 in cash on hand.
Isn't it about time companies started paying a living wage so this wasn't an issue?
I have to start doing that. I always have some cash in summer for farmers markets and garage sales but it's March.😡
@BrazenlyLiberal
Maybe other than cash? Cookies, drinks, adult or otherwise? 🍷 Sincere appreciation and the explanation of lack of cash. Do you have a gift card laying around?
I called a neighbor & she's spotting me a couple of tenners. That should be enough since they just have to drop it in the garage, no stairs or installing
Same! I always keep at least some cash readily available for tips. And for food delivery, I try to use that instead of adding it to the ticket because I want to make sure they get it.
Oh, yes! We never add to the ticket for that exact reason. I want to be sure the wonderful woman who grooms our very badly behaved dogs gets every penny and what's between her & the IRS is between her & the IRS.
@BrazenlyLiberal Is this a hidden bug for workers/feature for pay gap in the move away from cash in daily transactions?
I don't think so. Tipping long precedes plastic/tech payment. It's one of the oldest excuses in the world for paying people less than they're worth. "Oh it's okay, she gets tips!"
I'm as complicit as anyone in the move away from cash for most things. But tips are largely given to people in jobs where they can work their asses off for less than minimum wage. Some do great and some can only hope to make the rent. It's just wrong
@BrazenlyLiberal Exactly - I was referring to the decline in tipping resulting from there being less cash in circulation.
@BrazenlyLiberal I mean, there's electronic tipping, but I'm not sure how well that actually works...
We don't use it. We don't feel confident the person providing the service gets all of it
Oh. Interesting! I hadn't thought of that aspect.
@BrazenlyLiberal
Me you. I keep a stash hidden away.
