My subwoofer arrived today.💥
DAMN this thing brings it for only a 10" driver. And of course the whole system sounds better because of the crossover and fresh room measurement / correction.
VERY happy customer over here. Phenomenal performance for the price.

@stueytheround
Thanks. I've never been a big fan of 5+ channel systems. I'd prefer to have great sounding stereo, especially in the open-concept living / studio / dining / kitchen where this lives.
What freq. are you using for crossover ?
@corlin
I actually don't know! I'm running the sub in LFE Direct mode which bypasses its crossover, and I used the Audyssey room measurement and correction routine in my Denon receiver. It doesn't let you see the crossover frequency after it does its thing. You can only see the crossover point if you configure one manually.
Ok.
Thats strange, that it doesn't show. but thanks.
@corlin
I agree. When you go into the menu, crossover freq. is not selectable if you are using Audyssey mode. Mind you, this unit came with the most basic version of that software. It does the job, though.
@corlin
I suspect it's on the lower side - I believe 80 Hz is the lowest the receiver lets you set manually and I think it chose something close to it. Despite these old bookshelf speakers being quite cheap (and the company out of business), I've measured their in-room response with a spectrum analyzer and seen decent response down to the mid-40s.

@corlin
I misspoke earlier. You CAN see the crossover frequency, but it was buried. After listening some more tonight, I decided something wasn't quite right. Sure enough, the software had set the crossover point at 40 Hz, which is far too low for these bookshelf speakers. I re-ran Audyssey and it set that same crossover. So I found that if you go into manual setup you can keep the room correction eq, but override things like speaker distances and crossover.

@corlin
The next two settings were 60 and 80 Hz. I did a lot of listening back and forth between 40, 60, and 80 and eventually settled on 60. Much more authority to the system then when set at 40 as you would expect, and 80 makes things a bit more congested.
Never trust an auto setup on its own! I'm willing to bet the newer and more advanced version of this software can set crossover frequencies more precisely than every 20 Hz.
Ya 40Hz is too low even for a good floor standing 3-way.
And yes room correction is hard, even with the expense gear.
60Hz sounds about right maybe a small bit higher, depending to the rest of the system.
You hear what you hear. Any measuring system is just a starting point.
@voltronic
What model Denon? I have the S770H.
@pendrag
AVR-S710
@voltronic
Does not look like there will be a compatibility issue between the two models, thanks.
@pendrag @voltronic denon receivers are great!
@voltronic
I had been looking for a new powered sub after my old amp died. This may be a nice contender.
Thanks for the link
@pendrag
They run closeout specials every so often, which sell out very quickly. I got mine for $399 with free shipping.
I haven't tried any movies yet, but it sounds excellent with a wide variety of music I've been listening to this evening.

@voltronic
Guess I will pay site price, as the future of tech prices is going to be bad.
@pendrag
I would have gladly paid full price for this. Their customer service is also outstanding.
@voltronic
Sub got delivered today, so got it hooked up and tuned in. Time to go through some LP’s and a movie. 😎
@pendrag
Let me know what you think about it. I've been rocking on it with mostly music, but the other day I watched Top Gun Maverick and now I'm starting Deadpool and Wolverine.
@pendrag k
take a look at the RSL 10E…it’s on your doorstep for $299. Not quite as flexible in configuration as the on @voltronic got, but if it works in your situation….
@northernbassist @pendrag
I was considering that model, and connections wise it would have worked for me. But the space it would live in is a bit big and I think it would have run out of gas here. I also wanted a bit more LF extension.
There's also the 12S which gets down to 16 Hz for $800, but it's a really big box.
You’re the only person I know who would have a need to listen to a 16 Hz tone. That’s C0, right?
@northernbassist
Those octave naming systems are not consistent with each other.
But yeah, 16 Hz is low C on a 32' pipe organ pedal register. You hear that in person once at full volume, and you don't forget it.
Someday I hope to visit the Atlantic City Convention Hall organ once it's fully restored, and get to feel their 64' register which goes down to 8 Hz! There's only two pipe organs in the world that can do that pure without a resultant.
@northernbassist @pendrag
All the organ stuff I've been playing through the system since installing the sub doesn't seem to go below 32 Hz. I'll have to keep looking through my recordings...
Nice. Always been a sub fan, mainly for the boost in available power to the satellites. Looks like a great value, too.👍
@pendrag @voltronic HSU subs are worth a look (very satisfied customer and repeat buyer).
@voltronic That looks like a very nice, not too complex setup all told. Glad it sounds as good at looks.
