^ cc: @northernbassist because Mohini Dey absolutely throwing down.
@corlin this band is like Tori Amos meets The Bad Plus.
@voltronic Good stuff. Also my first time to see a piercing above the two front teeth. It works, but holy schnikees that must have hurt!
@voltronic
I'm heavily reminded of Tori Amos for the song writing and voice. Is there a term for the nonlinear rhythm you see here and in some experimental jazz, etc?
@Ulf
It's funny you mentioned that because I also got early Tori vibes.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "non-linear" rhythm. If you are referring specifically to the opening song, Symptom of Life, it is heavily syncopated (accented between main beats) and in 7/4 through the verses.
damn, that was so tasty..thanks for the tag. tight, tight, tight.
@voltronic WOW! just Wow!
@voltronic Thank you. Yes. Listen to this.
@voltronic Thanks for sharing this. She's great and your analogy of Tori Amos--who I've followed since she was a teenager being taken from venue to venue by her dad--and The Bad Plus is spot on.
@voltronic
Yeah that is a KILLER set. I think Mohini Dey is my spirit bassist.
this is Will Smith’s daughter, right?
@northernbassist
Correct. Same one who put out that highly annoying "I Whip My Hair Back and Forth" track when she was young.
This is just super high level music making. When the school year starts up I'm playing this for all of my students, because this is what they should be listening to instead of the lazy crap from certain megastars out there.
^ I don't usually boost my own posts, but more of you need to hear this because it's seriously phenomenal.
