Upgraded the main storage in my Sound Devices 788T-SSD recorder today. The drive it came with from the previous owner was a refurbished 128GB Samsung 830, installed November of 2014. Best practice recommendation from Sound Devices is to replace these drives every 4 years or so, so this was long overdue.
I replaced it with a 480 GB Crucial BX500 3D NAND, which only cost me $38.
This gave me another opportunity to admire the beautiful internal design. What a tank.

Having worked in both shipping and luggage, never ever put “fragile” or anything of the like on your packages.
I’ve been told post office workers play football with them. 🏈
@LnzyHou @Render @voltronic eh we never did that and 80% of people respect them, but it’s the 20% that will see it and take it as a challenge, yeah.
@Render
I'm curious to know more about this machine you worked on.
The 788 could easily survive being treated like a soccer ball, like most things this company makes. It was designed to survive harsh conditions and still outperform its competitors. Several of these were used for the desert chase scenes in Mad Max Fury Road.

@Render @voltronic Worked for FedEx for a bit. Your package will:
- Take a fall from >5 feet.
- Get tossed like a football.
- Have layers and layers of other packages stacked on top of it.
If you want to make sure something arrives undamaged, you often have to spend more on packaging than the value of the product.
@voltronic Man...
That looks kinda like one of the video capture machines that I co-designed and built in the early 90's. Everything screwed and or strapped down to everything else.
We had shipping issues with the first batch. Almost every one came back damaged in transit.
I learned that stamping "Sensitive Electronic Components" and "Handle With Care" on the shipping box meant "Treat like a soccer ball" to USPS and UPS.
