scientists have determined that the reason the Mayans disappeared after building a large stable civilization was they deforested too much of their land causing less water to evaporate to form clouds causing a drought that destroyed all their crops and they starved as their civilization collapsed. worst part, they knew what was happening. they absolutely knew they were causing it and kept doing it anyway. sound familiar?

I do know they had a profound understanding of mathematics and astronomy, but this is news to me that they possessed the intricate modern instruments (which are still vastly wrong) on top of this...

You need to track a multitude of variables, that must be measured by multitude of instruments, to predict the weather. At this point we are "good" at this, I have a tough time understanding how they achieved this without proof. 🤔
